Just wanted to repost, to keep it fresh.
For those who haven't seen. I'm the daughter of an adoptee (my dad) who recently passed away...I am searching for any/all surviving members of his birthfamily.
He was born in Chicago, IL on 12/26/49 and adopted about a year later.
If you have any info. please contact me.
To all still searching, keep the faith!
So, based on the positive feedback I got from some of you wonderful folks, I sent out letters to people in my area with the same surname as listed for my dad's birth mom at the time of his adoption...to my absolute shock, a grand-niece of someone matching the name called me a few days after receiving the letter to let me know that someone in her family did match the name I was inquiring about. After informing her why I was interested she offered to call her aunt and ask...
Unfortunately, the aunt claimed she was NOT the birth mother. I am a bit heartbroken because I think I got my hopes too high when someone actually called me -- the birth mother's name is NOT common and, according to the great-niece I spoke to (a VERY sweet and lovely woman) all the people with the last name I was inquiring about are her extended family (one of my letters actually reached an uncle of hers the same day...). Don't know whether to keep pursuing the letter idea in other states, or to let go -- a small part of my gut seriously wonders if this woman is not the birth mother of my dad but simply hasn't shared with her family yet...????
