hi folks,
just wanted to share that I ordered a few products from the line and I really like them. I ordered the Healthy Hair butter, the Hair Balm, the Mimosa hair honey and the Hair Milk. All are great, though the Hair Balm is a bit heavy for her hair. The Hair milk is a lighter product and I think better for us, same with the Healthy Hair Butter. I have to say we'll be ordering again, and we'll try a few other products as well.

LOL! I just saw the wording on her t-shirt! Xiomara needs one like that!
Hey, I never attributed my daughter's beautiful hair to the universe. I have baby-fine mousy-brown, ultra-delicate hair. Yuck. My daughter's is almost black and somewhat curly (the bottom few inches). Somehow I think your comment about the universe is not a positive one!

lol. christiane has gorgeous hair, it's just the gods have decided that I need to do hair daily, mine or someone else's :grr: . I truly hate doing anyone's hair. I never did doll hair, hated it. Never did my sis' hair-hated it. Never did my own hair-wore it in a pony tail constantly. ugh. doesn't matter the texture or whatever. The entire time I'm thinking: hmmm, on my deathbed I'll want this time back. I'm trying to train dh to do her hair, but it kind of hopeless. He doesn't know how to braid or even put in a rubber band! we have a loooong way to go, lol. I fantasize about dd saying "mom, I want short hair just like yours!" I keep telling dh that the next kid we adopt, we're looking at mom and dad's family for hair length, lol. dd has long hair from both sides of the family (bgrandma has hair down her back, same with baunt and that's just bdad's side! bmom's side has hair down to their waist on all the girls). oh yeah, I'm trying to be positive. On the plus side, I do get extra cuddle time with dd while I do her hair. we read books, talk about the cats (well I talk and she babbles) and what not. still, if you add up those minutes...
I giggle when she wears that shirt too. we got them from a company called babywit. their products are available online (.com). she has one that says "herbivore", one that says "no", and another that says "question authority" with pictures of a mom and dad on it. when she was younger she had one that said "center of the Universe". she gets many a comment when she wears them.
I'll keep ya all posted on what cool tshirts we managed to find. we did see one on a kid that said "elmo is my homeboy". pretty funny, but mom hates elmo (mom hates lots of things, have ya noticed? :D ).
Lisa,
I was traveling and lost the post, but here's a pic of H's hair - It's still thin in the front and has a could of thin spots throughout. I don't put in the two afropuffs that I used to in as often, but still usually scoop the hair into one puff. When I leave it out in an afro it makes the thin spots worse because the hair will gravitate upwards or downwards and stick that way.
the pics are right after bathtime with just a bit of Light Pink in it.
Jo
We got some products in the mail yesterday.
The healthy hair butter is great for big d's hair and we are using the hair milk for little d.
Also got the jojoba and shea butter hair sheen which we will alternate with BB apricot oil when Big D has her braids in.
The kid's butter lotions smell great but are very thick, just an fyi.

hey joskimo,
what a cutie! dd has a little bald spot in the back of her head too. fortunately it's growing, but it's not nearly as long as the rest of her hair. The rest of the hair covers it for the most part.
I would suggest the Hair Balm, the Hair milk (which should be refrigerated to maintain quality) and possibly the healthy hair butter to start. the hair balm will give sheen to her hair and oil it. The hair milk is a great moisturizer for the hair and the healthy hair butter is thick, but a little dab goes a long way. the healthy hair butter should be refrigerated too, or used in 6 months of purchase.
which hair product I use depends on what dd's hair feels like in the morning and evening.
btw, I just bought the Indigo flowers and herbs shampoo with sea moss, and I think I like it, but as a break from her other shampoos. I prefer the conditioners better, at least so far.
I think you'll like their hair products. Even dd's pediatrician uses them- who knew :p .
oh and don't worry about the bald spots-I see tons of kids with them every day :) . It will grow soon.
good luck!
a certain amount of "matting" is normal. her hair changes texture throughout the day due to humidity and other things (sweating and sleeping for example), which is why everyone in the 60s and early 70s who sported an afro ran around with an afro pick to "fluff" it out and shape it. your daughter may just need to to pick it out every couple of hours, you know, to make her afro look good :D . So you carry the pick in your back pocket, whip it out and shape the 'fro every time you guys pass a mirror- the girl's gotta look good ;) .
Hey Lisa, my hair milk doesn't say it should be refrigerated, does yours? The healthy hair butter is in the fridge.
The body butters I ordered say refrigerate also but we do our lotioning upstairs and there is no fridge up there and it says to for best results so I am going to take my chances.
I also ordered the big kahuna bath gel and it is great and the scent lasts a long time!
next order, whenever that is, I am going to try some other lotions as well as soaps and the hair balm.
Also, got lots of compliments on their hair at the doc's office today. And the doc asked me what I used. She said lots of the AA foster parents are still using grease and lots of it and makes the kids' hair feel greasy.
They were also impressed as I have figured out how to do two stranded flat twists with beads so Big D was styling.

lea, The guy that owns the salon where we purchased (and who informed me on the products) said that most things have a longer life if refrigerated. He also says that he does not order more than he usually sells, because most everything expires after six months.
Our pediatrician, who is AA, asked what I was using. Said she was going to try it herself. She says that dd's hair looks great and she cannot believe how much of it there is.
just ran to the fridge and checked. it says "best kept refrigerated". This is my second bottle. the first bottle I had I didn't refrigerate and began to separate. This bottle I do keep in the fridge and no separation of contents.
Haven't tried the body lotions, but I think what i'd do is go to the travel store where they have a ton of little bottles and jars, buy some and put some in one, keeping the bulk in the fridge. then you can fill up every week or so. that way you're not gambling too much, lol.
I'm going to try some of the lotions on dd, as well as some of the jellies to replace petroleum jelly. If dd starts going into the pool she'll need something to protect her skin. I wish they'd had this stuff when I had hair, lol. At least I know what to use if I ever decide to grow it out again.
and congrats on the compliments. Always nice to hear someone recognize what you're doing. our pediatrician is AA and she complements me on dd's hair. Most of it isn't my doing, just dd's gene pool, but like your doc, I think she sees many kids with less than well cared for hair. Maybe you should become a distributor of the Carol's daughter products to these folks, lol, or at least a reference for these other parents.
The body butter is really thick and it is a small container. I got the creamy candy body butter and the sweet baby butter. Both are really thick but smell great!
I think we may give the jellies a try in the summer as well as the butters may be too thick.
i just double checked my hair milk and nothing about refrigeration, weird. think I will shoot them an email and see what they say but is in the fridge now to be safe.
Thanks red and Lisa

hi there,
I'd skip the shampoo for now, imho. there are a number of good shampoos that are cheaper and otc, like suave, nexxus, pantene, or whatever you use now. Try the conditioners and see whether you like them.
while i like the shampoo from carol's daughter, i'm not using it to replace one I already use. it doesn't seem to provide enough moisturizer. I'm using it on occasion when her hair needs a break from the other shampoos i really like.
hope this helps :) ,
lisa
