It's sad to come in here and see how dead it is these days! Are people losing interest in the Ukraine because of the halt in processing of dossiers until January? Is noone talking here anymore? This is such a great source of information....I was just curious!
Hello? Is anybody out there?
J :(
Hi,
I still come by every now and then...Just looking into our options. We have been "stuck" in the middle of reaccreditations for Russia and are thinking about maybe switching.
Are you going independent or working with an agency?

This is a very quiet board, but there are some of us die-hards out here!!!
We are getting ready to leave for Ukraine on Dec 18th, our NAC appointment is Dec 21st
Jane
I am out here and I was thinking the same thing! I got an update and it is posted on the US embassy website which gave me hope again. They are open to dossiers again but not to every single child but that is progress. Cant give up now! Where are you guys in the process? Are you with a agency or independent?
Saige
To Jane or jmchowat...good luck with your travels. I take it this is your second trip? Are you ready? I have been reading this site lately because I adopted two cuties three years ago in November. I like to hear what is happening with new and experience traveler to Ukraine to adopt. I wish you the best of luck with your travels and would love to hear of your success story in December. I am assuming this is the second trip because you already have one child. What are you hoping for a boy or girl any age? Just being curious. You seem to enjoy this site too.

This will be our second adoption from Ukraine. We adopted our son from Kherson in 2001. We are hoping for a little girl this time. We originally wanted under 2, but we've been in this process for 18 months and as Ben is now that much older, the age doesnt' matter as much any more and we would just like our daughter to be younger than him. We used an agency in 2001 and are using them again, they have a great facilitation team in Ukraine.
Are we aready? Absolutely not!!!! Our front bedroom looks like a bomb has hit it!!! I have been adding to the pile of things to take for many weeks now, but none of it has been packed yet. I also have to get organized with Christmas presents for everyone, plus our son (they are pretty much all bought, just also lying in piles all over the place). I am having mini panic attacks when I think of all the things we need to do yet, but it will all get done eventually, one way or the other.
We will try to keep everyone updated on our Ukraine experience on this site if we possibly can. One thing I do know is that it will be very different from our trip 4 years ago.
Jane
Good luck with the packing and organizing. I do remember the kaos before leaving in 2002. Dress warm. Don't panic too much you know it will all get done in time. Are you going to have a website? Out of curiousity what major things that you know now that will be differenct from 2001. How has the process changed much? Maybe not here but when you travel in Ukraine? Just cuious.
If the forum here seems dead, it is not much better at Yahoo. I think the quiet is reflective of what is going on (or not going on) at the NAC. I suppose it may be like this for a long time.
While I admire the Ukraine people and its culture and want to adopt a child there, I bet if I was starting out now I would not choose UA simply because it has become such a daunting task. Perhaps this sentiment is spreading.
Best of luck to those who are traveling soon! :)
USIRLPUA,
does this mean you are adopting from Ukraine at the moment? My DH and I decided to change countries last month...we'd been working on a Ukraine adoption for nearly 18 months! We watched several friends travel to Ukraine and come back with nothing. They told us that all the children they were shown were older and unhealthy. One took a referral and got to the orphanage only to find a boy with HIV. The NAC director wouldn't give them another appointment for 2 weeks and when they came back, she yelled at them for turning down the first referral and my friends walked out without even getting to look a second time. We were starting to get frustrated with the waiting and the paperwork and the delays! We switched to Ukraine on November 15th and received and accepted our referral for a 6 day old baby on the 16th! So far changing the paperwork hasn't taken much effort and we pray our little girl will be home before May! It's amazing the difference in the countries!
I pray for all of you going to Ukraine! If you're called, I think it's definitely worth doing and definitely not impossible! Keep your faith!

Hi drjeanne, I'm confused by your post... which country did you switch to? It sounds like you switched TO Ukraine and then received a referral for a 6 day old childn, which isn't heard of in that country for international adoptions. I am just curious and wanted to clarify.
On another note, congrats on your referrals! I hope all is well with your new addition to the family! Just in time for holidays!
Hi saigehen, we are using an agency. We were registered on Oct. 13th. We're now waiting for an appointment date at the NAC- who knows when that will finally arrive. I'm interested in hearing where everyone else is in the process...
nene! So sorry! I made an error and typed "we switched to Ukraine"...that should have been "we switched to Guatemala"! Guess I'm still not used to changing my mind over from Ukraine to Guatemala. Thanks for pointing it out! That would definitely confuse people!
Thanks for your congratulations! We're very excited! Getting her nursery ready which is something I've put off and put off and put off! No more putting off! My DH and I are absolutely THRILLED!
Hope all is going well with your adoption as well!
Take care everyone and again, I wish you the best of luck in the Ukraine!

Nene-you might know this already from my previous posts, but we are using an agency, we signed with them in July 2004, we submitted our dossier in June 2005, got a registration date of July 25th and our appointment date is December 21st.
drjeanne-I can't imagine getting a referral for a baby 6 days old!! You are very lucky and no wonder you are so excited!!!! We adopted our son when he was 6 months old, so we got to do the baby stage once. We are still hoping to get a little girl under 2 this time, but I know that will be hard. Still, there have to be some younger children available and maybe we'll be one of the lucky ones.

Hi Jane, yes, I remember chatting with you in the past and think of you often as your appointment date gets closer and closer. Please keep me (and the rest of us PAPs) updated when you return *with your child*!!!
Drjeanne- thanks for the clarification! No worries, though! What a blessing for your baby! Please do keep us updated, also!
Thanks nene and jmchowat!
I AM really excited about my referral! Today we're getting a gift together to send down with our director who's visiting the babies this week. It's neat because after the DNA testing is complete, we can go down to Guatemala anytime we want and visit the baby! Also, it seems lots of people get the smaller babies in Guatemala. Right now on our agencies website, there are TONS of babies! Boys and girls! It's amazing.
Anyway, hopefully the Ukraine will draw more excitement in the future. The children there certainly do need and deserve our help!
Take care everyone!
