Hi! I am looking for some information on Catholic Charities and was wondering if anyone here has some successful stories they would like to share with this agency? For example, how long did you wait? Were the caseworkers helpful? Was there anything you wished you knew before going through the process? Also, did anyone go foster to adopt through them? Or did you do adoption right away? Any info at all would be appreciated! Thanks!

We used CC for both of our children's adoptions. Waited 2.5 years for our son whom we located through our own networking. Waited 3 years for our daughter. Her birthmom was working with CC. We currently have our homestudy updated by CC but they are not allowing us to be on their waiting list b/c they have too many waiting families. I think the caseworkers do an ethical job of counseling. However, as a whole CC did not provide enough information regarding networking for adoptive parents nor do they have any support groups for aparents. At least in our diocese. I think every diocese may have a slightly different program.
Hope this helps.

I haven't checked this board often and just saw this post.We adopted through our local diocese's CC agency. I felt very comforted by the fact that the agency was not only a Christian but Catholic organization and would hopefully be guided in the right way. We adopted while on the waiting list only 8 months! which was ahead of their 12 - 18 month average wait. We had one failed match, during which we felt we did not receive any counseling and very little support while things were iffy and then when it fell through. It was surprising, really. Our biggest disappointment was that there wasn't a formal support group, even though they said there used to be quarterly support meetings. Another couple on the waiting list (who adopted 2 months before we did) formed our own support group. I hope to some day be able to volunteer for the agency and help them put together a support group and be an adoptive mom to help guid others through the process. It would have been very helpful! Thank God for the Adoption.com forums - that's how I got through the waiting period! StorkWatcher
