We signed an open adoption agreement with Bear's mother way back in July. Since then she has been in about 6 different foster homes, and ran away from all of them for weeks on end. They find her and boom, a couple weeks later she is gone. We haven't even had a "goodbye" visit with her and Bear. It looks like we are going to have one with her mother. She had the last actual visit with him back in September.
I guess what I am wondering, how long do we keep trying to hang on? Currently the limited correspondence we have is thru Bear's case worker and bio-mom's case worker. (she is 15) What about after that when there aren't any case workers to keep track? How will we ever know how or where to contact her? Do we get a PO box and keep it just in case? How long do we keep continuing to pay for it when I have a feeling it will only receive cobwebs?
Could you give her caseworker contact information? Have them keep your phone number in her records. She can always get this readily.

My suggestion would be to leave your forwarding information with the currently known caseworker should the birthmother want contact with you again. That way you know you have kept your end of the bargain and done what you can so she can reach you. You cannot, and should not, live your life trying to track her down if she is choosing to run.
