Always, regardless of how you feel about a topic, moderate the chat rooms fairly and uniformly. Do not moderate one chatter for doing something, while allowing other chatters to do whatever it is freely.
If you cant monitor your friends, you canҒt monitor. If this rule is a problem for you, please let me know.
Witch hunting is not part of your job if you suspect someone might not be who they say they are, then email me their information. Every new member that comes to chat must be treated with respect ֖ even if they are a suspected troll. Our members take their cues from you if you֒re accusatory and rude they will be as well.
Be nice to everyone ֖ even newcomers. Most of the time someone coming to chat for the first time will be unsure of themselves, not aware of the rules or the lingo being used and most importantly, intimidated by the obvious friendships. There will always been new chatters we must embrace them just like we would have liked to be embraced when we started. Chat is not a popularity contest.
Abuse of power or position will result in the removal of your account from the monitoring team.
Many of our ֓long time chatters assume they have some kind of power Ԗ that is a common misconception all chatters are created equal and should be treated the same.
Do not allow the ֓gang up mentality in chat. If people start start booting. Issues are for monitors to deal with, not John Q. Public.
In addition to these rules, monitors must follow the Chat Rules (which I am working on getting back) also. You will lead by example ֖ and are subject to the same type of consequences our members are subject to, should you violate the rules.
The pillar of our rules, for forums and for chat, is respect. Respectful chatting is required in order to participate on this site.
I will add one more thing to this:
If you're going to log in chat - be at your PC and watching chat. I understand the need to go to the bathroom or whatnot, and thats fine - go - however, don't log in and watch TV or log in and go for a walk - when members see an @ in the room, they expect that the @ is IN the room. If you need to do a chore, walk the dog, paint your nails, whatever...log off.
There have been to many instances of things taking place in chat with an @ in there and the @ not doing anything.
