My dd turned 8 on Friday and I swear, from Thursday night to Friday morning, something happened to my sweet little girl turning her into a not so sweet tween before her yearsӔ drama queen with an attitude I wasnt prepared for until age 12!!
I know she was excited for her birthday and I know thereҒs an element of ItӒs MY birthday and Im Queen for the dayҔ, but Im telling you, her whole personality changed overnight!!
We went out to dinner with the boys and one of her friends and the whole time, dd was an eye rolling drama queen over everything! Loves to dance but all of the sudden she was ғtoo embarrassed/cool to go out on the dance floor. Usually jokes around a lot with her brothers and is a very overprotective big sister to her youngest brother but that night he was ԓa brat! because he wanted to sit next to her. I know having her friend there made a difference and there was a bit of the ԓgirl thing with the whispering and giggling etc. But when her friend said, ԓI cant stand my little brothers!Ҕ S chimed in with a me either!Ӕ Egads! Rolled her eyes at EVERYTHING and mocked her brothers more than usual and above and beyond the normal friendly siblingӔ way.
The whole night (sleep over) was a battle of the sexes/siblings and S really was pretty rude and sometimes downright mean to her brothers. I did keep the boys separate as much as I could to give the girls their spaceӔ but the boys live there too so its not like I could send them to exile, kwim? I cut some slack but there was a point where I had to pull her aside and remind her of our family rules and that her attitude better improve immediately! Pulled an attitude with me as well, for no reason other than I guess to ғbe cool in front of her friend. The child actually stuck her tongue out at me during breakfast when I reminded her we do not throw food at the table. While I donԒt relish correcting my kids in front of their friends, that was not acceptable behavior and I made it clear right then and there. I figured it was the peerӔ thing and looked forward to the friend going home. (and really, her friend is a very sweet little girl and it wasnt her friend personally I had a problem with, just ddҒs demeanor)
Yetafter her friend went home, S was still on her Jeckyll/Hyde personality thing and I canŒt help but think, what happened to my little girl????Ӕ And yes, I knew this was coming but at 8???
So all you parents of girls 8 and up.tell me this isnŒt a daily thing! Ill go crazy!!! ;)

I remember the first time Clint was folding laundry and held up a tiny little scrap of a thong, "Uhhh, this can't possibly fit YOU!" I just raised an eyebrow and he figured out who it belonged to. Perfect excuse for him to never fold laundry again!
Oh, poor dad, bet it took awhile for him to forget he'd seen it :)

Okay, first of all - what is KWIM and ROFL?
I have friends whos 13 year olds are wearing thongs. I was honestly shocked that the parents allowed it, and they said, "You just wait". It is so sad how sexualized these kids are growing up. It has been said a million times, but the media images they are bombarded with are terrible. We'll be watching American Idol or Extreme Home Improvement, and the Victoria Secret commercial comes on. I have to change the channel quickly, because these ads are practically soft core porn!
My 5 year-old is also very into "putting on makeup" - which means using my powder brush, brushing her eyebrows, and putting on Chapstick. She is also starting to throw a fit if her hair is not right...probably picking that up from my 8 year-old.
Hmmmm...and I thought girls would be eaasier than boys ;) .
KWIM = Know what I mean?
ROFL! = Roll on floor laughing
Make up is fine, but I hope I can prevent the thong thing til at least 16. Maybe I'm just old, and thongs are now just considered underwear like bikini underwear are, but it just seems more like lingerie to me and I don't want to go there. Course...now that I think about it....
I must have been 10 or so and wanted to wear one of my mom's lingerie things. It wasn't a teddy, more like a babydoll type outfit. It was sheer though. She let me wear it over a tshirt and didn't say a word. I was mocked horrendously by my older brother though and didn't wear it again. LOL!:)
Hmmm....maybe that's how I'll have to go about this...get the 3 boys to up their "protective" stance? LOL!
Andy,
I know what you mean from watching my many, many nephews grow up. Body piercings, tatoos, fast cars, trashing girls, porn and loud music are all a treat! Oh, that takes me back to the sort of boys I liked to date! :D

I dunno....I worry about the boys wearing thongs too...LOL! Or those "european speedos"...egads!
In general though...I think my 3 boys combined are easier than dd!
Speedos will NEVER cross my threshhold!!!!!
Unless Liam decides to be an Olympic swimmer...!
swimmer speedos are fine...:) I mean those really really tight and small thong type speedos...
Good point Christine....
They shave their legs/body too! LOL! But hey, if it's the difference between a gold and silver medal...
My brother used to shave his legs when we swam competitively as kids. We'd fight over the razors as he liked my brand better. lol

I just have to disagree that thongs are 'normal underwar' and not a big deal. They are meant to be sexy. And as for comfort, I find it hard to believe the people who claim that it is comfortable to have a string cranked up your but  . People survived a long time without thongs, and many do just fine without them now. Most clothes, especially jeans, do not show panty lines in less they are skin tight. And a slight panty line is not the worst thing in the world. IMHO there is absolutley no reason a 15 year-old or 13 year-old or, for Heaven's sake, an 8 year-old, needs to wear thong underwear! Again, just my opinion :) .
I don't know about the thong desire but we saw a teen girl at the store with a belly ring today and I asked S if she wanted one. Got a resounding "ewwwwwwww!" Whew! Safe for a time on that one! LOL!
And she asked for a balloon at lunch too, so for today anyway...she's a little girl.:)
I don't care much for them either mainly because of all the crying that comes with a deflated balloon. You'd think after a bazillion times.... But...it's free and fun for a bit.

OOHHH! FOR YOU! LOL! okay...whew!
volleyball with balloons is fun! Ah..you need to get "with it". ;)
My daughter just turned 8 in May she was the same way. Sometimes I don't have a clue what to do. She can go from having an attitude and being really snotty to being a whiny little brat (drama queen) is the only name I can give to little girls between the ages of 7.5 - 9. Good luck to all of us with girls in that age range.
