:(The past two days I've been feeling kind of run down. I am now devloping a slight cough (nothing phlegm-like yet) and no sinus drip either. I'm scared that if I get sick, Nicholas will get sick. As he's under six months, he's not eligible for a flu shot. What do I do with him if I get sick?! (Thankfully, I work the next two days and, even though I hate working while sick, I'd rather be AT WORK than with him if I AM going to get sick.)Any tips/hints other than washing the heck out of my hands, covering mouth when I cough? And, if he would happen to catch a cold... what the heck does one do for an infant cold? *panic mode*

Jenna, Sorry you so cruddy. We have had a hell of a week at our house. Take a deep breath. Hopefully babe will not get sick. Watch his temperature; at the sign of elevated temp, take him to the doctor. The best thing you can do is wash your hands. I would also use saline drops in his nose; just keeps those passages cleaned out. You can use the nasal aspirator afterwards or not. We use Little Noses.
If he does get sick, there are a few things to make it easier for him, maybe cool mist humidifier, elevating head of bed. (BTW, I never give my kids OTC meds aside from Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen, even now at 3 and 14 months.) Take care of yourself.
edited to add: You probably know but never give Motrin to babes less than 6 months.

Jenna - I am so sorry you are feeling icky!!!!! Here are 2 things that ABSOLUTELY have saved me and DH from getting sick this winter.....Zycam and Airborne. They should both be readily available in your local pharmacy.....we have CVS here.
They are both homeopathic in nature but work REALLY well for us. Also if you are feeling "flu-ish" try Oscillococcinum. That is also a homeopathic med spcifically for flu symptoms like fever, chills and body aches/pains.
Hope this helps!!!!! Feel better soon!

jenna,
hopefully you're feeling better. I have to say that dd and I have swapped colds for the past 19 months, lol. getting a cold as a baby is actually a good thing apparently, it builds their immune systems. the horrible thing is that when nicholas is old enough to hang with other kids-ugh. the colds come fast and furious at that point. I felt bad for me, lol, not dd. she did just fine, shaking off a cold after maybe a day or so. mom was knocked flat for about a week-the perils of getting less sleep than you should.
if he gets it it's not that bad. just watch for extreme temps (over 102 I think the book said), keep his room air moist with a good humidifier (you too) and cross your fingers. you can try and keep the cold off him, but I realized that I touch everything and can't have clean hands all the time. I like the kleenex virus tissues (kill germs) and antibacterial stuff, wash my hands frequently, but couldn't stop myself from kissing her, lol. I just read that kids who went to daycare and were exposed to major cooties were less likely to get asthma when older than those not penned up with a ton of germy kids -some study somewhere.
anyway, try and relax. use the cold as an excuse to get hubby to do more ;) . good luck with that-didn't work much in my case, lol.
take care,
Lisa
