My hubby is having a VERY hard time with the "you must be Grandpa" comments. He is 48 but has been counting backwards for many years now so this is hitting him hard and I am afraid he is going to smack the next checkout lady at Walmart that says it. He needs some good come-backs. Anyone have any?
first I have to laugh (sorry), since my dh never gets them and he's a few months older than me. I've been waiting for a guy to get these comments-mean of me I know.
it's easier for guys because they're seen as a stud for having a kid while older, while women are just seen as crazy.
I just say "nope, she's my daughter" and then enjoy it as they squirm and feel icky. sometimes it hits when you're feeling poorly and then it does kind of hurt, but thankfully that's rare.
and let me know when he smacks someone-I'll help fund his legal bills. some of those folks need a good slap ;) .
btw, I was just telling dh last night how I enjoyed going to one park in Pasadena because all the moms and dads are old :D . Rare to see a 20 something there. Now at another park, they're all 20 somethings or nannies. I like the old folks park better.

Ha thanks for the offer of financial help. I think as a joke I may buy him some hair dye to cover those grays. I am noticing he is eating more salads lately, he must be looking in the mirror a little more than usual. Nothing like a 15lb little girl to turn a guys world upside-down.
My DH is 51. He has friends from college who are grandparents so to him, it isn't an insult. People make assumptions based on what they know and see, and in our unique situation, they are wrong but he doesn't find it insulting. I have overheard DH saying to a clerk who asked if he liked being a grandfather... "well I am sure I will when my daughter has kids". The clerk kinda cocked her head to the side and said "oh..."
DH says he is proud of his young wife (I'm a "wet-behind-the-ears" almost 38... young right!) and DD, feels blessed that he was able to have a family when he didn't think it was possible. Our inside joke is that in less than 4 years he will get a discount on things like food and hotels, all the while our kids will be able to stay at certain hotels for free. What a bargain!!! THen we'll really be able to save for college. After all, he'll be retired with one or more kiddos in college. That is the scary part!
