Thanks for taking a minute to look at my question, I need some input! DH and I are hoping to be placed with a baby for adoption within the next few weeks, so the baby carrier thing isn't urgent, but we like to get our ducks in a row, ya know? :-) We have a Snugli. I really like the way it looks and how secure it looks. I have never used any carrier with any child. DH's aunt who has a 3 year old told us that snugli is no good and she wishes she had gone with the Baby Bjorn. DH and I went tonight to look at a Baby Bjorn, I'm not sure which "model" it was, but it didn't look that secure to us. It fastened at the top with buttons. It just didn't look secure, like if I put a baby in the carrier the button might slip through the hole. That was very disturbing to us. However, we're hearing the aunt's voice in our minds so we're thinking about looking at other models. Does anyone have any input regarding the snugli vs the baby bjorn? If you like the snugli, what do you like about it, if you don't, what is it that you dislike? (Aunt said it took too long to get babe in and out of it, too stressful). Also, if you have experience with the baby bjorn, can you share that as well, good or bad? Thank you so much!

HI,
I must say I love the Baby Bjorn carrier. I have 2. One for home and one to keep in the car. On both carriers there are buttons at the bottom especially for babies 8-11lbs to secure the legs. It also has buttone at the top to protect the neck when baby is very young. We used the Bjorn from day one and still use it (our daughter is 13 months old) from time to time. I would recommend the newer active model that provides more back support.
Best Wishes :)

Hey, Julie -
I don't have firsthand experience, but I have been getting lots of exposure to babies the past two years, as my best friend had her first child and is about to have her second, and since she has become a stay at home mom, I get to hear all about her opinions and day-to-day experiences.
Anyway, with 1st baby, they registered for a Snugli, because her mom had heard all these raves about the Baby Bjorn, and she figured they were similar enough, although Snugli was cheaper. Well, I have never seen her use the Snugli.
Now that baby #2 is about to be born (in a week and a half) she has been looking at carriers so she can wear #2 and chase toddler #1. She says she HATES the Snugli becuase it is really uncomfortable and hard to adjust (that is why they never used it). She decided to get a Baby Bjorn, and, fortunately, a bunch of moms in her mom's group pitched in and got it for her as a shower gift. Of course, she won't know how well it works for a couple of weeks, but she and her husband were both able to adjust the straps easily.
See if you can use the "search" funtion to find the "Peanut Shell" thread started by Redhedded. There was a lot of dicussion about different types of carriers there, and many posted photos, too.
Good luck! As for me, I am going to be very impractical and purchase/register for three or four different types of carriers (who knows, I will probably use them all). I also read a linked article (in a thread called "slings?") that someone posted which advised that it is better not to use those sitting-type carriers (all the time, at least) because of the pressure it puts on baby's spine.
The types of carriers I am most interested in are:
Peanut Shell
Mai Tai
Over the Shoulder Baby Holder
Mayan Wrap
Baby Bjorn
Sling (and there seems to be a very affordable and loved one that starts with an "I"... I can't remember the name but read that it sells at Target).

Thank you ddhaub, I will definitely poke around for that. Yeah, I was interested in a sling, too, but DH not so much. It seems more comfortable for a child, doesn't it? Maybe we can get both! You know, I never thought of that... just trying to find one that works for us both and that we like. Thanks again for your feedback, very helpful.
I just found the other thread and bumped it up for you!
Yes, I was going to try out several because I figure they feel differently on different body types. And as long as baby doesn't throw up on it, we can probably return the ones that don't work out for credit (at least, the ones that come from a normal store), or I will donate them to a women's shelter or something.
