Hello!! We are currently stationed in Kodiak, AK and have signed up with a facilitator in CA. After some reading I'm starting to wonder if we can get the adoption reimbursement because we are using a facilitator. Let me know and thanks in advance!!
I believe it must be a State agency (social services) or a nonprofit licensed agency, .facilitators are not licensed in their state...you are talking about the military reimbursement of $2000 right?
this site has some info on it

Don't tell me that we can't get the grant because we're going independent!! AHHHHH!!! They weren't kidding when they said adoption was a ROCKY ROAD! Is there anyway to look further into this or have we hit the wall because of the method we're using?
check out this fact sheet by the National Military family Assoc. it explains the $2000 reimbursement

DH and I just did this with a facilitator and YES, you can get the reimbursement even if you adopt independently. The thing is that if you're not using an agency you have to show that your attorney (as is the case in most states that allow indy adoptions) is authorized to place a child for adoption. A letter filed with the court showing that the attorney is the court-appointed guardian pending finalization was all you need. Good luck!!
