Happy Valentine's Day!
Just wanted to pass along a note about copyrighted info, forum posts, and images.
(1) Please make sure you have permission to use posts taken from any forum - even the adoption.com forums - and other lists and forums where you may travel...
(2) Same goes for images that aren't your own. You need permission to use them according to the terms of use on the site where you find them. Almost every site will have some language somewhere about the *legal*
stuff, and some require rather elaborate copyright info to be included.
(3) Quoting from the press, books, other media: Just excerpts, and full credit to original authors and the publication, unless you have other permission, and include "reprinted with permission," or whatever form of
credit/attribution they require.
Thanks!
Play safe!
Nancy
Hmm. What about images modified to conform to "fair use" standards? I've ganked a few widespread images that I know belong to copyrighted properties, but I've made an effort to reframe, revise and alter them in such a way that they'd fit the criteria. (Sampling smaller bits of large images, reframing/recoloring sampled faces.) And, well, they're not exactly native to the sites where I find them (mostly other blogs, messageboards, cafepress, etc.)
Happy to remove them if need be.

If you're sure you're meeting "fair use" standards, go for it... but if someone is using what you believe to be a copyrighted image, don't take it as is just because they are. Doesn't make you any less culpable if someone decides to get serious about it.
