Hi everyone! I was wondering, what exactly are Post Placement services? Is that where the SW follows up on the adoption and visits you at home after the baby comes? Are Post Placement services usually included in the Homestudy fee? I am so confused about this! Thanks! :D

watermelon, I think we're in the same state & if you final here, 3 post placements will be required. They are separate fees from the homestudy with all of our local agencies. It does depend though, on where you finalize. We finaled here on our 1st adoption & 3 post placements were required at specific intervals. For our 2nd adoption, we finaled in the state we adopted & only had to have 2 post placements.
Yes, post placement visits are done after your child comes home. We completed our first one last saturday. We have to more to do before June. After the third one our finalization papers will be submitted to the court for approval. That will take about 4 months. Our adoption should be finalized in January 2007. The post placement visits were not included in the Homestudy fee. The fee for the post placements visits are $250 each(paid to the agency), plus any mileage and fees incurred by the social worker.:grr: I can't wait till this is over with.

6 post placement visits are required by my state. We'll be done next month:cheer:. Our visits are $125/month. It's not included in our fee because we went through the county for the homestudy (were foster parents, too), adopted through another agency, and yet another (local) is doing the pp visits.
We are in California (LA). Are we able to travel with our adopted baby before the post placement visits are over? We have alot of family outside the country and wasn't sure if we are able to take the baby out of the US before post placement was over. Do they give you notice of the visits?
The previous posts are old from 2006. Post placement visits are per the state, in our state it was 3 visits rendered via a social worker/caseworker, based on your schedule. Its was pretty much low stress, seeing how the baby is adjusting and so on. We knew our caseworker pretty well by that time, so it was not a big deal.

Our post placement visits were pretty brief...just the social worker asking us questions about being parents (are we get any sleep, etc. Once I went back to work again she asked about how he was doing with grandma and the nanny) and checking on how our son is doing physically and developmentally...as for travel, our paperwork said we were not to leave our home state without permission from the agency. We planned a trip to SC and called for permission. They told us as long as we were not leavin the country, we didn't need permission. So I'd guess you would just need permission from your agency. Good luck!
