i have been waiting two weeks for my adoption agency to get back to me with the forms and information package i need to fill out. i just want to get things taken care of so i can relax!! i suppose my situation in itself isn't normal, a canadian looking to place in the states, but if i don't hear from them soon i'll be too far along to travel. i'm not really sure why i posted this, maybe just to say that i sympathize for those involved in adoption who are waiting......whether it's the adoptee looking for bparents, aparents waiting for a child, or people like me.

Just thought I'd say howdy to a fellow Canadian Girl!!
So I'm really curious, what is leading you to placing in the states? We contemplated going to the states to adopt, but changed our minds.
One thing I have noticed, and I could be wrong...but there does seem to be more options for birthmother's in the U.S. Birthmother expenses are sometimes allowed, as well as with adoptive parents not having to use agencies, there may be nicer ways to find your adoptive family.
I'm really curious :)

i like seeing a fellow canadian here too!! there are a few reasons why i wanted to place in the US. firstly, because i feel in love with a profile that i saw online, so i decided to got through the agency that family used. unfortunately that family has since been matched with another birthmother. also i have been very disappointed with the lack of support and answers to my questions i have gotten here in ontario. really there are many reasons, if you'd like to here the long drawn out story, send me a message......melissa
Hi Melissa. I hear ya..the waiting sucks..no matter what end you're on.
Good luck to you! May you get a speedy resolution soon!
Melissa,
I'm a Canadian birthmother. I'm sorry you are having such a rough time. It doesn't really sound like the agency you are working with values you, or your decision considering it sounds as though they are taking their sweet time getting back to you. I don't know much about the Ontario adoption system, but I'm sorry you couldn't find anyone in Canada to place your baby with. Too bad you didn't live in Alberta as there is a wonderful agency here.
My husband and I recently spoke with a potential birthmother from Canada (we live in the states) and our agency told us that California is the only state in the U.S. that reciprocates adoption with Canada. So in other words it's the only state that can do adoptions with Canada and be considered domestic. I don't know how it works if you were to consider it international if the laws change. Now, I don't know the laws at all but they did research it pretty thoroughly and it seemed that was the case so you might want to focus on talking with an agency in California if you aren't already. Best wishes to you!
