Hi everyone.
I know there are several threads going on this topic but I֒d like to just make one thread, so I am sure to catch all of the questions and comments.
The new advertising system is in its testing phase currently, there are NO filters installed, which means that words that might be triggering (pregnancy, etc) will be linked. I am working on this.
This roll out is in the ֓testing phase Ԗ we are working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything will run smoothly.
Please, continue to complain/vent about it the more information I have from our users, the more I can do to make this work better for us. The ad֒s are here to stay but I can make them betterօso please let me know what I can do (aside from removing them, which is not an option).
Thanks!
Ann,
Your correct, something similar was introduced last year (early 2005) but it wasn't taken down due to member complaints - it was taken down due to technical issues.

Something sacred to me has been capitalized on so someone else can make a buck.
As Ive said Җ no one is making any money off of this the cost to operate the forums has to be recouped from somewhereօand like I said earlier in the thread, I am working on setting up a subscription package for those who wish to support the site, yet not be subjected to ads.
Thanks Brandy for trying to make this work for everyone. Not an easy job ;). Add a move on top of that and whew...
Chel and I saw those 'links' and were like what the heck?!? Like others on this thread neither of us like them either.
Reading through the posts I saw some say that they weren't seeing them :woohoo:. I did a little looking and downloaded the free mozilla firefox web browser. With that and the add-ons adblock and adblock filterset.g updater I don't see the inline ads any more :).
So there is an option out there for ad-free viewing. Have a good week!

i just wanted to add that, although I personally would shell out 5$ a month or so for premium MAYBE, I think that having threads only available to premium members would not be productive. I would worry that all the "premium" members (most of which are the members that are on here most and have the most knowledge) would spend thier time there and not the regular threads. This would be less productive to NEW or regular members who really need/want thier advice and help! Just a thought...

p.s. Agree about this being a hard topic to deal with and find a solution, I do find the ads distracting, maybe they can take less time when they pop up, like right after you take your mouse off the ad dissapears, right now it lingers a second or two...
Im for the subscription package to avoid the ads if you want to
i think the forum is too important for people who need it not to have access to it.

Yup - and that software takes care of ads and popups on ALL sites, not just this one. Anyone interested can PM me for links.
Honestly, I'm surprised anyone still uses Internet Explorer anymore - it's awful. Break away from Microsoft tyranny! Go open source freeware! LOL
In my Netscape browser, the highlighted words get taken out of the sentence and moved to the left. It makes the posts unreadable, because all the highlighted words get jammed together.
Also, I find it very strange that I word I write is picked up and used as an advertisement. There has got to be a better way to have ads.

I did want to formally say that I do find some of the ads in EXTREMELY poor taste. For example, in one thread where a mother is sharing her heart about her grief and loss of her baby to SIDS a few short weeks ago, ads are poping up for funeral homes, gravestone sales etc.
I think that it should be possible for someone to realize that if, on this forum, we are discussing a funeral, it probably isnt in relation to a situation where advertising is appropriate. I find it in EXTREMELY poor taste.

Jen,
It IS in poor taste and as soon as Brandy gets back, I'm sure she'll get these types of words added to the "no ad" list or figure out how to get around it etc.

Crick - I doubted anyone would disagree with me on this one, but I thought it should be officially noted so that Brandy has some ammunition for the powers that be. I know you all are EXTREMELY reasonable on issues such as these, and sympathetic to the feelings they arouse :)

Do we know what the problem is with the In Line ads and loading on MIE 6.0? I normally use the FireFox browser at home and have no problems with loading. However, when I view at work on MIE 6.0.290, some pages take at least thirty seconds for the In Line text ads to load after the rest of the page has loaded. It has nothing to do with connection speed because our work connection is faster than home.
Any heads up on this issue as to making it more user friendly across browsers?
When I'm on the network at work using Netscape I have a slight delay in loading times and the pages display properly. At home using DSL & the same version of Netscape, I have a significant delay in loading times & the pages do not display properly. The underlined words are removed from the body of the text and appear over the post at the left margin.

Dear Brandi,
I just posted a comment under chitchat because I didn't notice this in your signature, sorry to have started a new thread about it, I hadn't seen it spoken about with the other threads I had read. Guess I wasn't reading the right ones. LOL! I don't know how to move a thread so if you want to take it off chit chat and move it here, I understand. Plus, I never had pop ups befor but I sure do now, all adoption related when I am here. I thought those were gone? Thanks!
