Hi! I know a teen who is pregnant and needs to find a home to stay at until after she gives birth. I was wondering if anyone knows of a really good maturity home or housing you can recommend or where to find a listing of good places. It has to be in New Hampshire. Thank you for your help

Hello!
I wanted to add that, while a lot of maternity homes are not this "up to date" I know of one agency that we are working with (here in Dallas) that is also a maternity home (they do a lot of helping beyond this, for single moms, volunteering with children, etc), and thier FIRST priority is for the mother to parent, they MUST go through so much counseling until they are 'allowed' per say to decided fully on adoption.....as a matter of fact, about 3 of every 4 potential birthmoms they work with decide to parent, that is why adoptive parents don't pay birthmom expenses directly related to the child, we help pay for ALL mothers expenses, adoption or not...again, I know this isn't every maternity home...they also only do open adoptions. I don't know of any in New Hampshire though, but did want to say there are SOME good ones out there and to research as much as possible, being sure to ask about COUNSELING!
Good Luck!!
Natalie
P.s. If you want you can PM me for the agency name, they might be able to refer her to good home in New Hampshire...
"Concern for the Lost Sheep
We are community with a purpose--to reach the wounded, the hurting, the outcasts. We share our Shepherd's heart of compassion for the sheep that have fallen victim to our society's increasingly chaotic lifestyles. As the hands of Christ, Believers have the privilege of reaching out to these individuals, evangelizing and discipling them, and restoring them to the Father's love."
Okay, I looked at the website, this paragraph is really bothering me...anyone else? I mean "restoring them to the Father's love" Let me tell you there is NOTHING that you can do to make God NOT love you, there is no "restoring" needed. and I don't know about "Lost Sheep" either....maybe it's just me....what do you all think? Maybe I am being too sensitive... :o

There are also a number of networking resources out there (I don't know where to find them off hand, my resources notebook is still packed) that offer no-cost living for pregnant teens and young ladies in need while they make whatever decision they make.
These resources vary - some are associated with agencies/attorneys - others are not and have no vested interest in the decision being made.
In my previous state (Illinois) the state had a program for pregnant mothers that were underage...so you might call the state DCFS (or whatever it's called in your area) and find out if there are similar programs in which the mother is placed in a home with a 'foster family' who teaches them how to parent and then allows them to stay after the birth, with rights fully intact.
If the mothers parents are unwilling (which is what it sounds like here) to help her thru this time - that might be her best option...the state can step in and make her a ward of the state and give her the support that is lacking.
have you tried contacting a local church in the area and perhaps they have some kind of outreach program within their community. Just a thought. There is Brightside in the West Springfield Mass area and they are wonderful for preg. teens. Not sure of the types of services, just heard alot about them while growing up.

Hey, I just Googled Brightside and I don't see anything about helping pregnant teens. This is an adoption services agency not a pregnancy resource center. As though as soon as they walk in the door, they are called birth parents (See bold below which I added). All they talk about is adoption. Not sure if I can post this or not so delete if you must but only if the post recommending Birghtside is deleted! "Welcome to Adoption Resource Center at Brightside! Founded in 1881, Brightside has spent more than a century meeting the adoption needs of children and families. The Adoption Resource Center is one of several programs at Brightside, a non-profit, human service organization. The Adoption Resource Center offers comprehensive services to birth parents, adoptive parents, and people who are adopted. We believe that adoption is a loving option and we are available to provide education, counseling, referrals, and support for people interested in exploring or pursuing adoption. Please browse our website and learn more about the services offered by The Adoption Resource Center at Brightside." Happy G'Ma
