We received a letter detailing the struggles of the trackback spam. I hate those spammers (yeah I know hate is strong but their pretty much all "bots" so I hate 'em)
Let me encourage you to be proactive about driving people to your site through the "pingback" feature. For those of you who have'nt used this yet, let me show you a recent example of how I've used it.
There is a very helpful site called Guate360 which has a blog that I read often. It is in Spanish so most of my readers would find it difficult. Every once in a while they post an article that I will write about. I will try and do more in depth research on the subject and bring new insight. However, like today, I start out with a sentence like:
The most recent edition of the Guate360 Blog contained the article "Guatemala, un estado fallido?" or Guatemala An Insolvent Country?
I link the title of their article to the specific blog post. Not just the Guate360 blog in general but the actual post itself. Then when I finish writing the article I select " under Additional Actions. This then notifies the Guate360 blog about my article and puts it there in the comments. To check out how it turned out, click on the link in the quote above and scroll down to comment 15. It posts just enough to get the reader interested and contains your title with a link to your site. It is a tremendous way to generate traffic.
When you reach out in this way, you are putting your article in front of someone who is already reading and interested in the subject. There could be no greater way of target markeing!
Moose Thanks,! This helps greatly.
questions to anyone who can answer
1. Should I pingback to myself when I reference another blog entry I made on my own blogs? What about other blogs on adoption.com?
What about pingbacks to sites that don't have comments? Like when I link to various heart galleries ?

I've been playing with this, but have yet to find one that will work for me! These are the errors I find:
Pingback server not found in headers and content
and :
comCouldn't open a connection to:
So, from this I am presuming that
1. some people just don't have pingback set up and we probably can't pingback to adoptioncom blogs.
Anyone know if this is correct?
Thanks for your help
You can pingback to our blogs. What happens when you click the pingback box and then save, it will try to pingback every link in your post. Some let this happen, some don't. I will check on the glitch with our blogs... I tried this too and it didn't work.
fyi This is what I am getting from all my pings to the adoption.com network. I've tried to ping elsewhere as well. I can't get it to work, but I get different message, like no ping header found, which I presume is on their end.
I'm still playing with it..Thanks for your help techies!!!

Connect to server at: infertility.adoptionblogs.comCouldn't open a connection to: http://infertility.adoptionblogs.com/weblogs/modern-myths-i
The only thing I can tell you is to make sure that the link you are putting is to the specific post on that blog rather than just the blogs main address
Instead of linking to:
http://guatemala.adoptionblogs.com
You would link to:
http://guatemala.adoptionblogs.com/weblogs/book-review-shaoey-and-dot
If you still get that message then yes it is on their end.

I will have our techs look at this on Monday... we SHOULD be able to send pingbacks to ourselves... I think... sigh... I wish I knew more about this tech stuff... grin
