I have 3 bio kids and am wondering what the time commitment for foster child visitation is like? I would hope to foster babies or 3 and under. How many hours of visitation a month is typical? What about drive time? Do you as a foster parent participate in the visits, or do you drop the foster kids off then come back later?
I live in WA if that makes a difference.
I am not in your state, but you can drop the child off and come back to get them. Most visits here are an hour long, so I run errands. We only do one hour one day a week here until the parents get close to RU. Visits are not a big commitment at all, but all the people visiting our home is a bigger commitment as are all of the doc visits and such that I do not do for my bios.

This if good info, thanks.
What do you mean people coming to your home? Are the extra doctor visits due to special needs issues?
I would ask what the visitation policy is?
In California for 3 and under the Advocacy is Reunification with either the Birth Parent (s) or Family.
Our Social Worker prefers to pick up the children!!
We just have to be home. When she brings them back!!
Case Management are required to make home visits, and Therapy appointments take up a lot of time here also!!
Foster Kids are generally very traumatized!!

I'm in CA and depending on the Court order, visits could be as few as an hr a week or as much as 9+hrs a week.
Here depending, FP or SW may supervise visits. Due to our case, our Agency SW supervise visits. Because of the location of our visit center, we drive an hr each way in traffic. Yes, we do all transporting.
Since we are w/ an Agency, we have weekly hour SW visits in our home for the first 3 months and then bi-monthly after that. We also have monthly visits w/ our County SW. So far all therapy appointments are in our home. Also our County has a medical schedule for all FC so we tend to go to the Drs once every three months not including illnesses.
