Our DS is 4-1/2 years old. When we were matched with ds birth mom in 2001. we told her if she ever wanted to see ds all she had to say the word and we would make every effort to meet with her. for the first 2-1/2 years it was semi-open sending letters and pictures. I think it was just too hard for her. she did call and ask us if we would like to come to a party she was having. we jumped at the chance. It was wonderful to see her and to watch her with ds. Ds knows he has 2 moms and 2 dads. He looks forward to seeing her like we do. in between visits we talk on the phone.DS is AA and we are CA. he is really big in matching skin color with everyone. He will say im black and you are white .we dont match but me and my birth mom matches. I say you sure do. With having an open adoption he gets to know her and she of him. Also she gets to see that he is well taken care of. we both respect our roles in his life anyone who is thinking about opening up the adoption or scared alittle . dont be It can be a wonderful thing. all around. Sure there are alot of people who think we are just wrong for having an open adoption.but they are scard of wht they dont know.
