OK, I guess I just want to know if this is normal. I have noticed my son kind of "humping" his hands, or a pillow, or stuffed animal on occasion. It is weird, but my sister-in-law who's son is 5 days older says that he does it alot too. I have noticed that it has been happening more since he was circumsized...2 months ago. Last night he woke up in the middle of the night, which is unusual. As I was trying to get him to sleep I noticed that he was kind of masturbating himself to sleep.
Now, there is no history of sexual abuse since we have had him since he was 2 days old. Is this normal? Could this be a genetic thing? Should I be concerned? Anyone else with this experience?
Our little guy grabs himself occasionally, my nephew did it when he was little, and I have several friends w/ sons who've mentioned similar behavior. It's pretty normal, I think. Actually, there's a blurb about it in What To Expect the First Year. Read it, you'll feel better!

I so clearly remember when my oldest was 2 and I walked into his room (he had a giant stuffed Power Ranger)he was laying on top of him "humping" the Power Ranger, I was devestated. I didnt handle it well at all, I called my dad crying, I was such a mess. I thought for sure that he had been "touched", long story short, my dad laughed and told me it was normal at this age they find "it" and explore it. He said not to make a big deal of it and he would stop (kinda like when the newness wore off LOL) Thankfully he did stop and now he is 13, thus far I havent caught him with anymore Power Rangers:p
My godson also did this for a long time. Contstantly would have his hands on it (like little readjustments.....)
The pediatrician double checked, and found no medial reason it was bothering him, so his parents were advised not to make a big deal out of it, but explain that it wasn't something he should do out in public (would need to go to bathroom or bedroom) because it was private.
Interestingly, his little sister also did this briefly for a stage when she was probably 2 or 3 "humped" the floor.......
I think it's just a normal stage some kids go through....
It is totally normal. They say even infants do it.
My brother was obsessed with his as a toddler. It was like his favorite toy. We laugh about it now, but my poor mother did not know what to do with herself. He actually liked to use it as a stick shift and pretend he was driving on a race track when we were out in public. Just picture this little kid with his hands down his pants making reving noise and running around shifting gears. Mortifying!!! I can't tell you how many times my dad had to have a little father to son talk with him. And, he grew up to be a normal, healthy, happy adult with no issues that we know of. ;)
Peace,
K

OK I know this post is a little old, but I laughed when I read it and just had to respond. My son was three and began doing that as well. I saw him grabbing himself and when I asked him what he was doing, he told me,"Nothing, nothing, it's just big." It took all I had not to laugh then. We did however put a large Scooby Doo away because he was humping it so often. Last year DS saw Scooby in my husband's closet, and got that familiar gleam in his eye. Too funny.
