seeking professional child psychologists in DC Metro area...

Hi. I am wondering if anyone might be able to refer me to any child psychologists specializing in international adoptees and behavior modification of Eastern European adoptees in the DC Metro area. Our girl may have oppositional defiance disorder, reactive detachment disorder, or other issues, and we would like to get an evaluation/assessment.

I highly recommend Dr. Susan Rich. She is in private practice in Potomac, MD. That's the catch--she doesn't take insurance so the visits are out of pocket, but you can file a claim separately.

Our son has RAD,FAS, and Sensory Processing Disorder.

You may have already done something, but if not, I highly recommend Dr. Ronald Federici. He's a neureopsychologist in Alexandria. He specializes in adopted kids, and is a father of 7 older adopted kids. His book "Hlep for the Hopeless Child" is great. I had him evaluate my daughter and traveled from Atlanta for that.

I will second Dr. Federici....He has been of tremendous help to us regarding services in school. We travel there every two years from NH....our post adoption services in NH recommended him. We have lots of families that have adopted from Russia and Romania that go to him. Our schools on the other hand probably aren't as great fans of his as they have to eat their own words that there isn't anything wrong. Also, my daughter who has mild RAD adores him, his testing, etc and can't wait to go back this spring. His knowledge of Romania is very reassuring to her and he answers her questions regarding her country far better then I ever could. Good luck. Nancy
