Because of the type of visas our two kids came home from Guatemala on, we had to readopt here in Illinois. No sweat, got it done. Then, I sent in the applications for their Certificates of Citizenship - at the same time, identical apps except for their names, etc., identical documentation, each with the appropriate fee, in the same envelope. About a month later, we received our daughter's COC certified mail. A few weeks later, we received a letter stating that our son's applications had been transferred to California, that we may have to appear for an interview, and not to contact them. Then, a month ago, we got a notice stating that they needed my husband's and my birth certificates and our marriage licence (which I sent with the original app.) I complied and I'm waiting. I'm giving it another week and then I'm going to start calling my representatives (Dennis Hastert and Barak Obama.) I'm steamed about this. Has anyone else had this happen? How did you resolve it? Thanks for any info anyone might have.

The reason that the case was transferred to the California Service Center is because USCIS sometimes transfers cases to centers that are processing that type of case faster. USCIS always tells people to wait 60 days before calling the customer service line to ask questions about their cases. i've found that their website www.uscis.gov has a case status online tool and that basically has you type in your application reciept number (3 letters and 10 numbers) and that should tell you if USCIS has recieved your information that they have requested.
