Hi all,
I apologize if this ends up being a duplicate, I just tried to post and it disappeared... Anyway, we just got the call that we are out of PGN and will be picking up our 4-month old baby boy from Guatemala in around 3 weeks. We also firmed up our decision to breastfeed, so I am scrambling to prepare. I am interested in the accelerated protocol, stayed up till 2 a.m. last nt ordering the dom and the Yasmin, and purchased a Medela backpack pump. My question is, should I start pumping NOW or wait until the protocol suggests? If it matters at all, I successfully full-time breastfed my 2 birthdaughters 20 yrs ago. (Does this make a difference as far as success rates?) Also, would it benefit at all to go ahead and start on the herbs right now? Or just wait and follow the instructions exactly? Since Estuardo will be coming home so soon I should be doing -something-...while I wait for the meds to show up. Also, if I did follow the protocol to the letter, and if I am remembering correctly the pumping doesn't start for a month, do I breastfeed using a lact-aid when he first arrives, do I bottlefeed (??), or?? So confused, so excited!! ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated!!!:thankyou: Lou in Albuquerque

I didn't use b-control. I started with Dom. and pumping right away and had milk in 2 days. I too b-fed my teens many years ago. I started with 10 mg./day for about three days so my body got use to it then added 10 mg/day until I was up to 80 mg./day (20 mg 4X/day). I didn't use a lactaid but did have to supplement with a bottle. With you baby probably being use to a bottle I would suggest the lactaid because if they have to work for it they may be turned off. I will PM you a GREAT site!

I used the accelerated protocol, beginning just 6 weeks before my triplets were born, which left me two weeks of pumping. I would say follow it exactly, and, like another poster said, go to the forum with the protocol. Lenore is sick right now, but there is a very experienced member there keeping an eye on things and keeping her up to speed. Just so you now it's possible, my triplets are four months old now, and still exclusively breastfed. I didn't use the Lact Aid once. Good Luck!
