I have a 2 week daughter and she weighs around 9.5lbs. I am really worried about her weight. Can anyone advice is she the right weight? How much should she weigh by the time she is a month old? I guess Breast milk is the only thing she can be eating now. It does put my breasts under a lot of strain. But I did buy one of those Top mommy all-in-one tee and bra on the insistence of a friend. It has helped a lot. Are these safe and can I wear them regularly
carol. if you are worried, do you have the financial resources to bring her to a pediatrician? If not, there are free health clinics, I'm assuming there would be one in your area, just google "free health clinic"+(your state) and it should pop up.
I know that initially, babies lose a little weight once they come home from the hospital.
Since you are breastfeeding, it is hard to know how much milk she is taking in. You have to figure out this -- even if she stops feeding briefly, she might not be full. Stick her on the other breast and see if she will eat more after burping her a bit.
My niece taught me this (I don't have a child yet, but have learned a lot from friends and family), my nephew eats and stops. You literally have to burp him, then put him back on the breast or bottle and try and get him to eat more.
Good luck to you, sweetie.

It also depends on how much your daughter weighed at birth, and what her length is. Another resource, if you qualify financially is WIC. They can weigh and measure your daughter and also assist you with getting the right nutrition for yourself.
Do not worry, my son was born 8lb 15oz, and was over 9.5 at his 1 month checkup. Are you considering giving her up for adoption, since I see you are on this message board... If so, please let me know, for my husband and I are looking to adopt a little girl.
Hey! Soliciting potential birthmothers is NOT ALLOWED on this board. It is rude, inappropriate, and in violation of the terms of service.
So knock it off, xandi!
Don't worry! That is a great weight for a 2 wk old. Your baby is in the 71st percentile for weight...a good place to be. The only way it would be a bad weight is if your baby was 10 pounds or so when she was born and has been losing weight. You should be going in for a two week well baby check soon. In Texas we do a second newborn screen at this time but I don't know about other states. Is she on Medicaid? If not and you don't have private insurance talk to someone about getting enrolled for Medicaid.
Also if the top is working, it's fine.
Smile. Relax. Breathe. You are doing great!
Congratulations on your daughter.
