Thinking about our pick up trip and our dd, age 2.5, will only go to sleep with a sippy cup of milk. She is beside herself if she doesn't have milk to drink.
When we were there picking up Katy, my dh tried to order a cup of milk at the Westin, but it was not like milk in the USA. Any suggestions for us? Can we go to the store in GC and buy it? Any help. We will stay at the San Carlos Hotel in GC.
Our children had to have milk too before bed. They are very picky about taste. We found that the liquid milk in the unrefridgerated boxes tasted better than their reconstituted cold milk. It still tastes a bit different though, but our boys drank it. There is an Econo Super grocery store around the corner from the Marriott. The hotel staff could give you directions.

Ooo...I hadn't even thought of this. My almost 4 year old goes to sleep every night with a cup of milk too. Keeping this in mind, I think I am going to bring some Hershey chocolate syrup (because I KNOW she will drink chocolate milk) - maybe it will cover the different taste enough for her to drink it and go to sleep. So much a milk's flavor comes from the type of grass the cows graze on. I can imagine milk must taste differently the world over.
I was thinking about bringing powdered milk, will your kids drink it? I'm not sure Katy will like it (she doesn't even like to drink lowfat milk, my little picky girl!)
Every grocery store has fresh milk. Differences you may notice - the hotel could possibly be using a shelf-stable, aseptically packaged (like a juice box) milk. This form is very common in Europe and could be used by big hotels who lack enough refrigeration space. If you notice fresh milk tastes "different" but not sour, it could likely be because the cows were fed different stuff. I have found that many food products in Guatemala are better than what we have. More like what we pay a premium for as being Organic.

Yep, be careful. The milk does taste different. We bought, what we thought, was the equivalent of whole milk, cold, in a carton, and my then under 2 y.o , didn't take to it at all. I think it has to do with the pastuerization, or lack ot it. Lots of vomit:eek: We switched to the Nido 1+ and he was fine. Try transitioning your child to powdered milk or pediasure-type supplement now. Then you can just bring the powder from home - include the label if you put it in a ziplock bag for the customs check. The Nido big cans are very reasonably priced. We ended up bringing 2 home.
