Hello, I'm new. I'm 22 and for several complex reasons did not realize I was pregnant until extremely late... (I'm about 8 months along and found out in just the last few weeks).
My boyfriend and I are in a stable commited relationship, however, we both agree that we currently cannot offer a child the best kind of life it deserves. We've decided that adoption is the best option.
My boyfriend has a half sister who is several years older and is interested in another child. She and her husband currently have a sweet 4 year-old girl who took several years of fertility drugs to be concieved. We would love for this family to be able to adopt our child, however I'm trying to find information on the legal aspects (we don't know any lawyers and our direct finances are a bit tight currently). My boyfriend and I currently live in Indiana as does his half sister and her family.
Our major question is whether or not a homestudy would need to be performed in order for the family to adopt our child? I've found conflicting information about this through internet searchs and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Because I'm so far along, I'm not sure if we would have an adequate time window for this.
Secondly, my boyfriend's half sister and her family are currently preparing to move to Illinois where her husband has been offered a new job. Would this cause considerable problems in the adoption process?
Thank you very much to anyone who can help us out with this information.
That's what people we talked to today told us. We haven't gotten a chance to talk to an actual lawyer, this has all happened in a semi-short time span.
