Are you talking about my midwife or my pediatrician? I never got a doctor involved in my part of lactating, but our ped. was surprised and happy when they found out I was BF our baby. Especially since she was preemie. However, if I had run into problems being able to induce I would have called my local hospital or gotten the name of a lactation consultant from my midwife. LaLeche League can also help. With the Domperidone I didn't need a prescription, I got it online.

For me it was extremely easy...because my Dr brought the idea up to me!! I was so glad she did b/c I was so nervouse to bring it up myself. I am still afraid to start looking for a pedi, but the baby is due in 5 weeks, so I need to get some guts going here! My appt is Monday with the lactation specialist.
Thank you for the information. Some of the women in my family that i talk to, seemed kind of shocked that I wanted to BF. So I am kind of hesitant to talk to my DR. I don't have an OBGYN so i would need to talk to my family doctor.
Nia - congradulations on your match. ~ November is right around the corner. We may have a match due in Jan.
Tracy - What a darling little girl. - I love the hair.
ouska; unless your family doctor has a lot of experience with breastfeeding mamas, you may want to find a local branch of your La Leche League or contact the local hospital to speak to a lactation consultant. :)

Hi - I have sucessfully breastfed two of our 5 adopted babies (and all three bio) and find our pediatrition is great support as long as I tell her what I am doing rather than asking her. #7 was failure to thrive so I had to do some negotiating with her to keep her comfortable with my ongoing breastfeeding, but I supplimented with a SNS when she didn't show progress and we were all happy.
My midwives were and are always estatic when I choose to BF.
i brought it up with my ob and he just blew me off saying he has never heard of anyone successfully bf an adopted baby. he has never heard of anyone lactating without giving birth. he told me to not even try, it would be a waste of my time. I guess he should visit this board. little does he know!!!

Now there's a docter out of the loop of things!
