My mother's good friend's daughter just called me and they are seriously considering adopting an AA child (we have 4 adopted children of different races so to my mother, I am the authority). They live in Farmington
and would like to talk to anyone who lives in North Salt Lake, Bountiful, Centerville, Farmington, or Kaysville that has adopted an AA child (or is an AA family). She would like to talk about what it is like to raise a AA child in that community. Anyone out there who fits the description or who knows how she can find such a family? I do have one family, but all of their kids are teenagers or older so I think their experiences, while extremely valuable, may be a little different then her AA child may experience, so I would like to give her both
perspectives.
Thanks!
Kelly
If you go to the LDSFS in Salt Lake City, there is a couple who works with them a lot. Their names are Curtis and Melanie and they have an AA boy who is now about 18 months old or so. Curtis and Melanie run and teach a lot of classes there and are really involved in the adoption community.

Hi There,
I live in South Davis County. In my ward (I am LDS and so is the greater majority of my neighborhood) we have four families who have adopted African American children. One family has three children, one has four children, the other two families eachl have only one so far but plan to continue building their families. Their ages range from one year old (now) to maybe 10 years old. Each of the children are African American and were all adopted at birth.
I also have a cousin in North Davis County who adopted a little African American baby boy last summer.
I don't know if any of them would chat with you but I wanted to let you know that it is becoming quite common even for this area.
