I am new to foster care system in Escambia county. We were recently approved on 11/15/06 and received our first child that night. It took 3 weeks to receive papers about the child. I didn't even receive a letter about being in care of the child for a week later. I was daily calling the case worker, and she always had excuses... her daughter was sick, her husband had the car, she had a doctor's appointment, that's not information that foster parents are entitled to... it went on and on, i had to go higher the supervisor to get any information. By the time i received the information, it was time for court and the judge ordered reunification. It was hard to get in contact with the case worker, and she seemed to not care... there was always something more inportant. We would have visitation were I would meet the mom and I would wait 30 minutes for the mom and try to reach the case worker for 30 minutes after that, and she woudl finally call back and say... I was going to call you and tell you visitation was cancelled this week because of the mother being sick. This was 2 hours after the meeting time of the mother. I was told by a foster mom of 10 years, that the case worker I was dealing with was the best the system has had... I sure hope not. We had a fs placed on Monday, and still do not have paperwork on him..... It seems to me every case worker has an excuse. I so far haven't had any good encounters with the case workers or the system, but I am doing it for the children. I love the children so much. We are licensed for 1 child, but this weekend we are doing some moving around to get a room ready for 2 more! It's exciting. Do you live in Escambia or Santa Rosa? Are you currently working with the system?
