Hi all - I just spoke with our agency coordinator and she explained that some changes are occurring in Kyrgyzstan. The Prime Minister and his Cabinet have resigned, effective Jan 31, and this will halt (not sure if temporarily or indefinitely) adoptions. Has anyone heard anything else?

When I was in the process, the same thing happened and it was definitely temporary. The govt is unstable, but it seems to come and go. What I think, for what it's worth, is, unless real violence breaks out, the process will keep going, with occasional temporary slowdowns. I pray this is so, although my daughter is home, there are so many awesome kids there for all you waiting parents-to-be!

You know, I had just started so it's hard to remember but I want to say they resolved their issues in a few weeks. They ended up NOT resigning. It is frustrating, because it has nothing to do with the adoptions per se, it's just that the govt shuts down and NOTHING can be done. I know how you feel but try not to panic, I think it will be ok. I was supposed to travel 2 days after the American Air Force major was (supposedly) kidnapped, I opened my morning paper and kyrgyzstan was in the headlines!! I totally freaked, floods of tears, thought I would never get my daughter but it didn't affect me at all. Good luck, keep us posted!
