HI! I am in the Kzoo/Portage area. We have been here about 2 years now. We adopted our son from Nicaragua, and are now pregnant with another son. He is due in April. Total surprise, but we are getting used to the idea!
Anyone else on my side of the state?
I did grow up in Troy, and my whole family lives in Macomb County. Seriously, they are scattered over the ENTIRE county, so I know most of it!

I am from Grand Rapids Michigan! Just thought I would say high to all you other Michiganders. This is my first day on this forum.
We are just beginning the adoption process. We have not yet found an agency to go through. Some of the local agencies seem very pricey. We are looking to adopt AA or BR newborn. I have considered using a facilitator, but not sure how that works in Michigan. Anyone have any ideas or used one themselves?
Have a pleasant day! :prop:
Welcome Mamabean!! I am from Grand Rapids too! We have had five very successful adoptions in exactly five years (to the date) and have just gotten asked if we would be interested in number 6!! PM me sometime if you'd like.

I hardly ever post and I always forget to check the MI thread. Actually I am not even sure how I found this one but it seems that someone else from GR (we have a mutual friend in common) has found me on here by figuring out my profile- it's a small world!

I'm also in Grand Rapids. We did the local agency run around for a year with no luck :hissy: and I know a few people who are good. You can PM me for my opinions, if you want. Our daughter is 5 months old now and we're already thinking about adopting again!
It's great to see all these GR families surfacing! Wouldn't it be ironic if we found out we knew each other from the adoption classes or the adoption conference? (which by the way, if you don't know what conference I am talking about and you live in the GR area PM me, it's awesome!!)

I wondered where all the Michigan folks were hiding! We're in Coldwater.
We live in PA, but I grew up in Coldwater, and all my family is still there!

I grew up here, moved away, got married and decided to have a family and now I'm back. It's a small world, isn't it?

It's nice to know that when we visit, we won't be the only transracial family in town. Are there any others that you know of? Did you adopt before or after moving back to Coldwater?

Actually, we were adopting domestic transracial and that fell through. Then we were matched with a caucasian infant and here we are. So much for plans, huh?
But you definitely won't be alone. Things are different around here from when we were kids. OK, not New York different, but different.
We adopted while we were here. One of my big regrets is with such a small town and county, there are no adoption support groups or play groups anywhere near here. I'd really like something of that nature.
Pooh: Our adoption was domestic.
