My hubbie and I are hoping to adopt a girl 12 or younger from foster care. We have just started the process and are supposed to be starting our classes this month. Good Luck to everyone who reads this. I know this is going to be a journey.
Hello Everyone!
My name is Donna and my husband is Gary. I have three boys from a previous marriage ages 21, 18 & 8 and Gary has three adult daughters from a previous marriage and we are expecting our fifth grand-child from his daughters.
We have been working on becoming approved for a year now and though we were approved January 7, our sw found out that we must wait 6 months before we can inquire about any out of state children. This was terribly disappointing as we already had some inquiries in about a daughter. The problem with this is that we are looking for a daughter not younger than 4 and not older than 9 as this would work best for our family. However, there are not any children in Alabama that fit what our family has been searching for, in fact, I have been looking all along and I have never found a daughter fitting the description.
I know it sounds like we are being horrible, almost as if we are shopping for a daughter, but we know what would best fit our family and do not want to bring a child into our family that may not be a good fit.

My husband, 3 children, and I are moving to northern AL this summer and would like to adopt a domestic sibling group. Like Jezzabella, we would really appreciate any information on good agencies to work with or if going through the state is a good experience.:thanks:
Hello,
My name is Caroline. I am 29, married, and have one bio son - 5 1/2 months old. I used to be a teacher (as indicated by the screenname) in Georgia and in Florida, but we have since moved back to Alabama. Adoption has always been a first choice for me, but my husband is very new to the idea. We are in the "research" phase - i.e. checking out every book we can find about adoption in the library and searching the internet.
We would like to adopt a sibling set of boys, as it has always been my hope to have four rambunctious boys around the house. Ha - I know, I know. We are at least a year or more out, but my absolute ideal would be to get them before Aiden (my son) turns two. I guess that's about all for now. I am excited to be a part of this board to learn about and from other adoptive families.

Hi my name is Starla. My husband and I are wanting to adopt a child 6yrs or younger. We are currently working with DHR to make this possible. Here is our blog about our journey so far. Our Adoption Journey
Hi! My name is Tori. I am 35 years old and live near Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My husband and I have recently (as in last week!) started the adoption process. We've talked about it on and off for several years and have finally decided that this is best for us. We're hoping to adopt a young girl that we saw on the DHR site that is 12 years old. She's been in the system for at least a couple of years and we both fell in love with her from the get go. I know that picking out a particular child is apparently a No-No, but I hope that after the Home Studies and the GPS classes that she finds her way in to our home.
After reading posts on the forum, however, my hopes are quickly getting dashed. I've read that dealing with DHR in Alabama is a nightmare! I hope that some good luck comes our way and that things run a bit smoother than what I have read.
Well, that's our story in a nutshell. Nice "meeting" all of you and I will go ahead and offer a great big THANK YOU to any advice we could get.

Hello! My name is Haley. I am married to a wonderful man and we plan to start our adoption process in March of 2014. We live and work in the Madison area. We have no children of our own, but feel that adoption is right for us. We have already picked a wonderful Agency and spoke with them a few times. However, we will not have our actual "sit down" meeting until March, so any info will be helpful!
Thank you,
Haley
