How many of you ladies from Michigan had failed placements? I was just wondering this because I too live in Michigan, and Michigan is one of those states that have a pretty long period before the adoption is finalized. :thanks: for sharing your stories.

We have four adopted children but only one adopted from Michigan. No failed placements but one contested adoption which was finalized in December (thanks to God). You can ask an agency to call you ONLY when permanent custody has been entered. Our son's birthmother worked with the agency for 3 months before she delivered and had already signed her permanent surrender before the agency called us. Best wishes. Josie
I am also from Michigan and have had two failed matches. Our agency has been very caring toward us but we still don't have a child! We asked them not to call us until after the Termination of Parental Rights papers were signed. I can't take anymore of getting my hopes up, visiting the baby and then having to explain to my kids at home that this was not going to be their sibling.

Hey SusanHave you explored any other agencies lately. I received a packet from Bethany Christian of Madison Heights. I am trying not to focus on one agency, but get a feel of a few so I can make a good decision. Currently we are still w/o an agency..it is all scary. I would be ideal if we can find a mother and just use our adoption attorney.
Good morning all. I'm reading with much interest and now a bit of concern the various postings on failed matches and adoptions in Michigan. We're currently talking to an Emom in Michigan who had been working with an agency but was dissatisfied with the service and attention she received. She broke from the agency and found our profile on ParentProfiles then contacted us directly. We retained services of a Quad A adoption attorney months ago and we've enjoyed working with her. We're from NJ. Does anyone have experience finalizing in States other than Michigan? We'rehoping to finalize under NJ laws. Does being a non-resident make the process more cumbersome? How have you handled counseling for the Emom? Thanks in advance. :flowergift:
