As a birth first cousin, I can request non-ID info from the state of Tennessee. My question tho is how to prove the relationship. I have my birth cert. which tells my mother's maiden name. Now how do I prove that she is her sister's (birthmother) sister? The birthmother is deceased and the obituary lists both my mother and I, but I am hesitant about using the obit because I don't want the adoptee to find out that way. Any suggestions?
Hi Sandman!
Could you possibly ( I know it's a lot of trouble ) get hold of birth certificates of your aunt and mother? They would list the same parents...

Thank you. Since my last post, I have sent in a request with my birth cert and my mother's. Could not get my aunt's since her husband would have to request it and he doesn't know about this baby yet. Anyway, am hoping that they will find my mother or grandmother listed in the file as they said that would verify the relationship to someone in the file. My mom's b.cert. shows the grandmother's name and she saw the baby so am hoping it will go thru.

Was able to get nonID info. Shared it with my Mom and she told my uncle about 3 weeks ago. He said that he knew about the baby before they were married, but knew nothing else. He has told his son (half-brother to the adoptee) who seems to be having a difficult time absorbing it. I am hoping that he will eventually seek ID info.
Sandman....I would go back to the court where you want to gain access to the info and contact the clerk of the court.
They will be able to share with you what the requirements are for gaining the information you want. You dont need an attorney to contact the clerk of the court. That information is free, but they will not give you legal advice.
I wish you the best.
