I adopted my son from Guatemala. He is 16 months old and has been home for almost 10 months. I have been trying to find and even start a support group but have been unsuccessful. I would love my son to know other adoptees especially Guatemalans but am having no luck.
For those of you who have older adopted children or any adopted children, how important do you feel it is for my son to have these connections?
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Hey,
I'm cruising through the forum and I ran into your post. My son is almost 7 and Brazilian. I think the best option in helping your son meet other children who are adopted and or Guatamalen is to talk about this in his school/preschool/daycare or church. If not in these venues sometimes communities have adoption support groups and from there you can make a connection. My friend has two children she adopted from Bolivia and she has found a group that meets in the summer every year for like one weekend and the kids really enjoy connecting with their birth ethnicity and seeing that its okay being adopted in to new families.
Hope this helps.
