Hello! DH and I are relocating to FL from GA next week. We were all set to foster in GA - just waiting on our home visit(s) - when we decided we would be better off back in FL w/ our families. Anyway, I found an agency here(GA) that will assist w/ free out-of-state adoptions of older children from foster care(we were exploring straight, older child adoption, as well), and now we're moving. So...back to my question. Is there anything like that in FL? I would love to have that option when we are ready to get back to our adoption/fostering plan. Since I have your attention for a second, does anyone know if there is a required length of time you must be a FL resident b/4 you can become licensed to foster/adopt? I spent my whole life there until 2.5 yr ago, so I'm not new to the area or anything. You can PM me of course, since we cannot discuss agency names on here. TIA :)

I've never heard of any FL agency helping with out of state adoption. I'm not sure where you'll be living in FL but I can tell you if you're in Pinellas or Pasco county using the Safe Children's Coalition they frown upon it. They actually won't do an adoption homestudy until you've been matched with a child so that in itself is makes it next to impossible, because the agency you work with out of state will ask for an approved homestudy before even talking to you. It also creates a TON of extra paperwork for them not to mention headaches and though you and I know it's all for the children, they'll tell you that Florida has plenty of children that are looking to be adopted.

Hi, good luck and yes the SCC is headquartered out of Sarasota. I'm not sure if they work differently down there but I'd guess not since they're all under the same umbrella. I've not had to deal with anyone from Sarasota, we've only worked with SCC Pinellas and SCC Pasco. The folks in Pasco are WONDERFUL. I do know they have match meetings with all three agencies once a month (supposedly) so you may get to deal with same folks we're dealing with. If you need any help just let us know.
