I am new to the board but need some help. I decided to start fostering late last year. The first Mapp class starts in March, which I will be attending. I am absolutely excited to do this; however, there is a good possibility that I may be moving from Florida within the next 3-12 months. I would like to begin the path to foster parenting (and/or adoption) but I don't want to get a placement only to interrupt it because I will be moving. Someone on another site suggested respite care. Is only doing respite care a possibility in Florida?
TIA!

Respite care is badly needed in Florida. It will take you from 4 to 6 months to get licensed. Some other states may accept your MAPP trainings and do independent home studies - I don't know of a single state that wouldn't jump for joy with the idea of someone willing to do respite. I know I would love to have someone that would be willing, able, and licensed to take my fk's for a day or two- here and there!!!

It may not necessarily take 4-6 months..because from the time I completed my class (which was an accelerated one done all in one week) until my last homestudy was less than 2 months (like a month and 3 weeks)
...and now I have been waiting for a little over a week to hear that I am licensed..so the entire process at the longest will take like 2 and 1/2 to 3 months for the ENTIRE PROCESS..Classes, Background Checks, Paperwork and ALL!!!
but I was VERY proactive in getting things done though..and to be honest..if I hadn't moved and had to postpone my homestudy I'd probably be licensed by now...
However, if you are going to move out of Florida in 3 months...you may want to wait until after you move..because once you move , you'll have to do EVERYTHING over again in the new state.
Thanks for the advice. The move depends upon several variables and so it may not work out. I don't want to drop out altogether because I may not end up moving. I'm willing to start here and take the classes over in another state. I figure its not a huge sacrifice to take them again.
My MAPP class is accelerated but only shortened to 5, 6-hour classes. The class starts first Saturday in March. This process will take 2-3 months from what I'm gathering. I guess the bigger issue would be buying furniture for extra bedrooms knowing that this stuff may have to be packed up and moved across the country.
Oh well... I will do what I can and if it doesn't work out here in Florida, then it will somewhere else. Thanks again for your input!!!
:thanks:
