We have been told that the California is very liberal with PBM expenses. Is it true that she is entitled to living expenses for an indeterminate amount of time? In NY it is 3 months and I always thought that Cali was something like 10 months. Can that ten months run post partum? Is it longer than ten months? Any help would be appreciated. We were recently told there is just no limit!!!! That doesnt' make sense to us. Thanks.

Code 8610; 8812A full accounting report shall be filed with the court, itemized in detail, including receipts from the birth parent for any expenses paid. Most every state has the same language - reasonable maternity-related and living expenses. So, yes, it could go post partum, if it is maternity-related. Things such as counseling shouldn't stop at birth - nor do Dr.'s visits, if you've agreed to pay for medical expenses. You keep mentioning that you are working with a 'consultant' - I sure hope you aren't paying them much, based on the information you've posted and the sheer lack of help they've been able to provide you (even pointing you in a direction where you can read about the laws in every state...).Since you're 'consultant' doesn't seem to be providing the service, I will - you can read about laws on child welfare site.

No she does, she's pretty good. She just said she (and the attorney we work with) haven't really done California adoptions because it is very expensive. She said she'd give me details tomorrow after speaking with the attorney. But I am always my own advocate and get info from as many sources as I can in order to protect myself. And if I don't have info before that conversation I don't know how to ask intelligent questions. Thanks for your support.
