Gosh it is soooo dead on this board. I am going to try to get something started. What is your toddler's favorite book or books? Right now my daughter really likes her Sesame Beginnings "So Big" Elmo book. Of course she really likes anything Elmo. She also really loves a book called "First 100 Words" by Bright Baby - It is a big picture book with pictures of common foods, objects, clothing, animals, etc and their names. We look at it all the time and I ask her where things are. It has really helped with her receptive vocabulary.

There are a couple Sesame Street books that are really great fun. One is "There's a Monster at the End of this Book", with Grover. and then there is "Another Monster at the End of This Book" with Grover and Elmo. Every child that I have ever read these to has laughed and laughed. Of course you have to really get into it yourself too, to make it fun. Grover is telling you not to turn the pages because of the monster at the end of the book. so I read what it says, then have the child turn the page, then in my best Grover voice read Grover's reaction.
The other two "Grover" books my sons loved were "Resting Places" and "The Everything in the Whole Wide World Museum".
My daughter has this book titled I Love You So Much...
It is amazing. I can't recall the author, but it is wonderfully illustrated and well written. A mom and child are talking about how much mom loves the child...even when he misbehaves, etc. It is darling. My daughter loves it so much, she carries it around with her sometimes away from home. It is so worn, I am going to have to buy a new one.

Do any of the other kids in the 2 year old age group pretend to read and not let mommy read? I rarely get the chance to read bedtime stories anymore.

My two toddlers also love to read to me. I've cut down on story time by reading them each one book of their choosing and then giving them the chance to read me one book. If it is a particularly long book and it's getting late, I limit the number of pages they can read to me. I tell my daughter she can read me five pages tonight and we will finish the rest in the morning. So far it's worked well.
As for favorite books, they both love the David Kirk books (Little Pig, Biddle Pig or Litte Mouse, Biddle Mouse), Dr. Seuss' The Foot Book and Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You? (My youngest calls it the Boom Boom book because at the end Mr. Brown makes thunder and that's her favorite part), and Buttercup the Clumsy Cow has been a favorite for more than a year now. Recently, my almost 3 year old has really enjoyed books that have numbers in them. She has two favorite counting books right now is getting better each night about recognizing her numbers. I'm getting tired of the books but she enjoys them and is learning at the same time so we continue to read them night after night!
My dd is 16 months old. She LOVES books. She is constantly making the book sign, and I tell her to go get a book and I will read it. Her current faves are:
1. Little Miss Spider
2. The Little Red Hen (she loves this because I do funny voices, I think)
3. A wocket in my pocket
4. I love dogs
I am going to look at some more of the Sandra Boynton books. We have Opposites, and she seems to like that.
Great titles here, I hope to pick up some more books for her next week or so.
