Tracy, we talked about hair care and afros about a month or so and I"ve been trying it out, getting pretty good - see Hannah's pic, but I still have the problem that by mid-morning in the back her hair is starting to seperate a little and by afternoon it's in clumps. Is that normal or am I doing something wrong?

Good thread, Jo! I have two girls (3 and 5yrs) that would LOVE to leave their hair in a 'fro'.......but, as you say, by mid-morning, it doesn't look like it did when I picked it out. The back is usually getting 'flat', or anywhere they've laid their head down.
Do they just have too much hair? Too thick? Sooo, instead, I find myself either putting it in pigtails or top-knots, combined with twists at times.
I've also put their hair in bands too (along the side of their head)--which looks nice, but I'm not one to leave their hair 'in' for days at a time. (Gotta pick it out and put oil on it, or it looks too wooly for me.)
What else could we do to make it better?
Sincerely,
Linny

Drihan's hair gets flat after nap or a ride in her car seat, I just take my hands and fluff it up. It never seperates though. I think Drihan might have more hair than Hannah so the bulk would cover anything trying to seperate possibly. Has anyone had problems with their babes pulling out their hair? Drihan pulled out four HANDFULS of hair over a few week period. I am asking the ped. about it tomorrow. She actually has some thinning spots in front from it, but you can't really tell because she has so much hair. BTW, I have made my own hair butter. 1/4 cup unrefined Shea butter, 1/4 cup olive oil and 1 capsule of Vit. E. You melt the shea butter and add the olive oil, let it cool and add the vit. E and then just put it in the refridgerator. I am going to add some tea tree oil to a batch because she has some itchies. You can also add essential oils if you wanted like patchouli or lavendar. I got tired of buying stuff that had chemicals in it and she can't use Carol's daughter because of her soy allergy. I am making her her own shampoo too using Dr. Bronners liquid soap which i probably will add tea tree oil to as well. I have a great website with recipes for hair and body stuff if you PM me i will give it to you.
