We have a 13 yo who has done nothing but talk about signing up for Pop Warner Football. My 14yo bio has also been talking about it.
We were hoping to sign both up - until I heard it cost $220/child! YIKES
So, sadly I had to tell the boys - I just can't see spending close to $500 for one season of football. They both have never played - not to say that they shouldn't try - but I have my mom feeling that they will get bounced around and want to quit (which of course we did tell them that they had to stick it out if they did sign up).
Our foster son is originally from Pa - so there is an ICPC in place. I asked Pa if they would pay this amount for football and they said No. There is no money for sports=/
They said - ask Fla.
I doubt Fla will help out ---do any of you have children involved in sports? Do they help out?
I wrote to the president of the Pop Warner here in our county to see if they offered scholarships but havent heard back yet.
It might have been easier if we were receiving some sort of board rate/subsidy but after 3 months we have yet to receive anything - although told it will be on it's way someday=)
I feel so bad not having them play.
My Dh said - just wait 2 years till you are in H.S and you can play for free=)
Hey there - my hubby and I are both on our local Little League board forever and ever, and our basketball league, and we have kids all the time that can't pay. We do have a sponsor-a-kid thing that we do as a league, but I have to say that even if we don't have a sponsor for a kid, we would never turn one away.
My advice - go to the sign-ups/ registration, wherever it is, face-to-face and ask them. No board worth their salt would say no. They may not want word to get out that it happens that way, (it would be abused) but I can't imagine it being a problem.
So, FYI, if they're still interested at sign-up time next year...
Best of luck -
- Kim
