We did our classes a year ago, We were having a new home built so we did not get approved until Jan of this year. We are approved for up to 3 children, We are very experienced parents and there was no problem with backgrounds or references. We had 3 different pros until finally a private contracter was hired to do our homestudy, Well, it is very poorly written, grammer spelling and conterdictions. No ibe will accept it, and it is not because of us. They are going to rewrite, but it has been pushed from one person to another because of lack of skilled manpower. and we wait again. Is there anyone who has gone through this, Where can we turn next. There has to be someone higher up who can help. We have jumped through hoops for nothing. Don't know where to turn or what to do next. Waiting is getting us nowhere.
Have you tried going to the supervisors? If so and there has been no help I would keep going up the chain of command.
Make sure that you get to read the final draft for errors and contradictions (if possible, you might even try to have a professional proof it).

First, if you paid a private contractor to do your homestudy and it was sub-par (to say the least), make them re-do it! You paid, so you should ask them to make the corrections.
We started with a private agency, and then the out of state DSS that was placing kids with us forced us to have it redone by a public agency, only because they (the out of state DSS) refused to work with my private agency for post placement services. it is the most ridiculous bunch of red tape you have ever seen. A year later, we are still waiting for the public agency to finish the paperwork. Meanwhile, the kids have been living with us for 10 months and are beyond ready to be finally adopted.
The system is awful. I wish I had better news, but it seems like there are problems in every state. I did get some fire put under the right bodies when I escalated issues to the ICPC office (for out of state placements) and also through the regional supervisor and the head person at the state health and human service division. After that letter went out, the paperwork suddenly started moving again. I hate to say it, but you might want to consider becoming the squeaky wheel.
What is really sad is that they are crying because there are not enough foster and adoptive families, but the sad truth is that many don't stick around long enough to wade through the red tape. Hang in there. there are kids out there who need you. Stick with it!
I have started a place to log all of our complaints againist DHS. Please go to kidscount2007@aol.com and tell your story. You don't have to identify your self, but do tell where your from and names of AS, SW, etc. if you have them. I am from Arkansas and I am speaking with the state reps office hoping to have something change. Please take a minute and tell me whats up.
Thanks
