My baby girl came home exhausted from daycare today. (Home daycare) Lady said she didnt even have one nap today (normally she naps twice) and when DH got her home she went right down for a nap at about 4:00. When she woke up later her eyelids were very red and partially closed. I think she looked like she was on drugs! She didn't have a fever, and she cried and cried, which is out of character for her, then took 10 minutes in the high chair before starting to eat...then after she ate she crashed for about 10 minutes then 'caught her second wind' and for about 30 minutes was her normal self. Then she became a crybaby again, and her eyes still looked bad.
Do you think the daycare lady may have given her Benedryl to try to get her to settle down for a nap?
She is a new daycare provider- my regular one had to leave town for an illness inthe family.

I have heard of a daycare person giving benadryl to make the babies sleep.... but unfortunately the story did not end up well. I don't want to go into details, but I wouldn't doubt it if she is acting really really tired.

I would just ask the daycare provider. It's against the law - at least in my state - for providers to medicate children without parental permission.
On the other hand, I got home yesterday afternoon to an almost-6 year old who had fallen asleep for two hours starting at 3pm, then laid on the couch wrapped in a blanket until dinner was ready, then laid on the couch again. No fever or other illness symptoms, just punky and under the weather.
Maybe your little one just had an off day?

If you're worried, ask. But if it was a provider that was unfamiliar to your DD, then she may have had some stress from the uncertainty of it all. At 15 months that would be entirely normal. I know I've experienced it recently with my kids going to a day home two days a week (and her DD coming to my home too). It has taken some time to adjust to their new care giving arrangements.
As previous posts have said, if you are concerned I would ask. I do know though that at that age there were some days that my daughter's sleep patterns would change abruptly (no nap, wanting to go to be early, or not sleeping at all) and then they would return to normal. Sometimes it happened before she got sick but sometimes there didn't seem to be an explanation. Did it happen again after you posted this?
No it didnt happen again, but the poor baby has a cold or allergies. We have had tremendous smoke in the air from forest fires about an hour away (100,000 acres!!) and the daycare ac was out for a few days. Then I noticed yesterday she cut her first molar. She is now coughing but seems better. So many issues, such a little girl!!

teething was going to be my suggestion.... My DD also just has off days, no nap and cranky when she comes home.. Hope she feels better and the fire gets put out!
The fires are still burning, and we found out baby J had an ear infection, but is recovering nicely.
Another daycare issue: I don't give my girl sugar in any form, not even juice. I do give her plenty of fresh fruit instead of juice. Anyway I told this new daycare provider 'No sugar of any kind- no chocolate, and no juice, but I can bring fruit for you to give her instead of juice.' Anyway I bring fresh fruit cups a couple times a week - melon, grapes, watermelon, strawberries etc.
Today when I dropped her off the lady popped the lid off the fruit and started feeding her the grapes whole! I always cut them up - Baby J has only one molar that just popped in 10 days ago, and I have heard there are instances when babies have choked on grapes. When I mentioned these to her, she said 'oh no she has no problem with whole grapes, I give her bigger ones than these whole'.
Should I be concerned? Should I insist she cut the grapes? Or should I cut them? (the lady mentions buying her own, so leaving them out of the fruit cups I bring won't solve the issue.)
Is this an issue?

Well, it sounds like there is a bigger issue here. Maybe a trust issue. You could probably start cutting them up but then when fruit is brought in and not cut up then you are still going to have the same problem only you probably won't even know about it and the day care workers will become cautious about even mentioning this stuff to you.
It sounds like they have been feeding your daughter the grapes uncut for a while and she is doing fine. They are trained to work with infants and you have entrusted your daughter to their care so I might voice my concern to the staff about how you cut it up at home and since she has only one molar you are not sure that she is ready for uncut food but I don't know if I would make it a big issue. That is unless there are other issues that are concerning you in addition to this one. If the staff makes a point of not listening to your concerns, not responding, or doing things with your child that you have expressly forbidden (such as "accidentally" giving her sugar) then I would begin looking for another provider.
