We were placed with our first foster baby last Saturday. I don't remember when the checks come out each month. I'm anxious to get it so I can get a pack n play and a few other things we need. Wasn't sure if it was a state wide thing...where they are all the same or if each agency does them differently? When do you think I should expect to get our first one? Thanks

It differs by county and agency..however you should not expect a check for 3-8 weeks. They let us know that up front and told us to be prepared for it AND made included a statement in our Bilateral FP agreement saying that we knew that we had to wait to get our check... ....
I was blessed to have a LOT of stuff given to me, but I had also just gotten my tax refund when my first foster son came, so it wasn't that much of a financial strain initially and then by the time my 3 boys came I had the subsidy check from my first foster son, who was no longer living with me.
HOWEVER, if you need something for the child..ask the cw if they provide an emergency stipend....
My 7 m/o's former foster mother had NOTHING for him when he was placed with her....But the GAL and the cw got her a BUNCH of stuff donated (Not sure where it came from) He had LOTS of diapers, clothes, food and toys by the time he was palced with me, mostly donated from other sources....You may want to ask if your agency can assist you in some way.
If they can't help...Try seeing if someone will give it to you on Freecycle.org (just look for one in your area) or see if you can get it cheap on craiglist.org (just look for your area on the homepage....I GOT A LOT OF STUFF FROM THERE! Including a FREE PACK N PLAY along with a LOT of other stuff

Thanks for the reply. We are okay...we don't need help. And technically I don't NEED the pack N play right this moment. I'm just anxious to go out and get some things like that for the baby, so I was just wondering when to expect the first payment. As soon as I read what you said about the long wait, I do remember them talking about that in MAPP...but see....we took our MAPP classes a year and a half ago, so I had forgotten!
Thanks again! I am going to check out craiglist though, I'd never heard of that. I am a member of our local freecycle and got a doorway jumper from someone through that group.
