We are straight adopt through the foster care system. We waited nearly 10 months for our current placements- which are not even techincally placed yet - still in transition. If all goes well we'll be able to adopt around December.
So, due to the length of waiting time ( 9mths to 1 yr seems to be average around here), I want to ask our adoption worker to keep us on the list for a boy 0-4yrs. I know with younger ages it may take even longer.
Am I crazy to even consider this before our adoptions are finalized?I probably won't request this until the TPR on our girls goes through. I just don't want to wait another 2+ years to have another placement!

I've mentioned it awhile ago. She said there's not a rule as far as length of time after the official adoption. It's just a matter of the adjusment time each family/child needs before adding more chaos! lol
Guitarmom,
When did you "find" your kids and how long have you been transitioning them to come home?
We are wanting to straight adopt and are wondering about the process. Did you find your own kids or did you work with an angency?
Thanks for any info.

Well, Im not guitarmom, but will share our time frame. It took us 2 months to be matched with a boy for straight adoption. We started out as fost to adopt and then went to straight adoption after several placements. We've been transitioning now less than a month...we had 6 visits with him up where he is and just had our first weekend visit with him at our house. I will tell you though, we were looking for a boy age 7 to 11, CC, mild to moderate issues. The younger, the harder/longer. The boy was 10 when we were matched and just turned 11. We were looking on the east side of the US, and were matched within state, he's about an hour north of us. There were maybe a handful of young boys that ever came across our plate and we never made it to interview on them. Both the agency and I found children to submit for. I probably found more than they did. They would get info or flyers on kids not yet posted on a website and only within state. We always provided themwith kids on various sites we wanted to submit for.
Good Luck and keep us posted on your journey!
edited to add: we probably submitted over a 100 homestudies during those 2 months. Maybe heard from 1/3 of the workers...
