 It would be great to have a list of what needs to be done for the Home Study. I know you need smoke alarms, etc. I would just like to get everything done Before the inspector tells me!

Here is what she looked at for the home study. Smoke detectors on each floor. Knives, chemicals and medications locked up. She looked in the fc's room to make sure there was a bed for each child, also a dresser, and no ceiling fan if you have bunk beds. She looked at the pool. We have have alarms and child locks on the doors leading to the pool. A fence around the yard were the pool is. Also, for the pool we needed at least one rescue device. Either the hook or a life ring. She said they recommend that you have life jackets for each child. She wanted to know where the fire extinguisher was. She took a copy of the dogs rabies shots. She did look around our home and instead of going in the other bed rooms, she just asked what size and how many beds. I almost forgot the refrigerater. We had to have a thermometer and it had to read 40 degrees. That is all I can think of at the moment. It has been about a year since she came.
The county health inspector came either before the first or second home study. Sorry I can't remember which. Anyway, he looked at about the same stuff, but he also took the water temp in the bathroom the fc would use. He also looked in the bottom cabinets in the kitchen and the bathrooms. He said to make sure there were no chemicals there.

They did not do a credit check on me, but we did fill out a paper about our finances. They do criminal background checks. They did FDLA checks on anyone over 12 that lived in the house and fingerprinted adults of the house for background checks.
Hope that helps

I saw in some website that you must list all immediate family members and their address. Are the family members interviewed/background checked? What about the references, are they also background checked?
I want to be able to tell family and friends what we are putting them through... But I think asking the social worker would raise all kinds of red flags.
Thanks!
We did not have to give a list of family or their address. They did call our references and ask about us, but that is as far as it went. The only people that have to have the background check are those living in your home, or people whom you will be using as a babysitter.
