Anyone else have people asking you when you are adopting #2 so soon after you've just adopted your first??? We want to spend as much time as possible with our DD before adopting our second but I do wonder how long you have to wait between adoptions. I have been told 18mos before you can even update your homestudy and I've heard it is 18 mos before you can accept a placement. So any light on this grey area would be great!

time2grow, you're in Durham, right? When we finalized our worker told us there was no wait time, but that a lot of people she spoke to thought it was 18 months, which it isn't. I think that comes from a private adoption agency in the area who insist on 18 months between showing your profile again. She told us to give her a call when we were ready to do it again and she would update our homestudy (I believe it's a much shorter process) and then would start looking for a match.
Wow! Thanks for the info! We were actually asked by one of the other workers involved in the adoption if we would be adopting again. We said yes, but we would like to put some space between DD and the next one and of course we would like them to be younger so DD doesn't loose her place in the family. She told us to mention it to our worker and get things updated, simply because the next one may not happen as quickly.

:) DH and I are still going back and forth on #3...I'm not done having kids, he is. We'll see where we end up. I'm tempted to get our profile updated again because it will be a much longer process (DS is only 8 months). I know Durham will not adopt out of birth order because I always thought I'd like to have a biological child and then fill in the gap between them (DS is 7, turning 8 in Nov.). Our worker shot that down on several occasions.
Given DH says he's done, we may be done. I'm sure if DS would sleep through the night his perspective would be different. Only time will tell!
Allana, your DH sounds like mine. lol
We have 3 children now, and we are getting ready to finalize our daughter's adoption soon.
DH thought we were finished after our third, but I said we should keep everything updated just in case we want more. It is so much easier keeping everything updated rather than starting over.
Well, here we are, and we are seriously thinking about #4. I am so glad we didn't close our file.
:)
Hmmmmm.....At our last meeting with our SW, we touched on adopting again and she stated that we couldn't adopt again until 18 mos after finalization! She said this was ministry policy. This concerned me a little. What if we couldn't get our court date for a year??? I would hope we shouldn't have to wait 18 mos after that date. If an appeal is an option, I think I would try and appeal for 18 mos after placement.
Time2grow, some agencies do require the 18 months between adoptions....thankfully, ours does not.
We brought home our second baby in June 2005, and then found out we were matched with our daughter in October 2006.
As I mentioned earlier, we are 75% sure we are going right back on the list as soon as we finalize to try for 1 more child.
We shall see.

time2grow, do you have your court date yet? A few weeks or months after finalization I would call the worker up and ask to update your homestudy so you can start again. You might have more luck if you call the administrative assistant in the adoption department instead. See what their reaction is then!
How bizarre that I would get one very specific answer and you would get another, all from the same agency? Our worker had a hyphenated last name...part of which matched a famous actor. Did you have the same?
