My youngest son just turned 3 a few days ago. I really want him potty trained and we are getting closer to that goal. But the problem is he forms an attachment to what is on his pull ups. Well today I purchased an inexpensive pull up thinking to save money and hoping that this will be the last package. But he didn't like the rabbits on them. I had to draw capes on each rabbit because he is a HUGE superman fan. That did get them on but do I want to draw capes on every pull up? I hope not. Has anyone else had to go to this extreme?
In the six months after turning 3, my daughters wore pull-ups exclusively. Generally, I bought the ones with the Disney princesses on 'em (can't remember which brand, but I think it was Huggies) but occasionally I would pick up some cheapies. When they complained about the pictures I told them "When you're using the potty all the time, we can buy you underpants with the pictures you like. Until then, we have to buy what we can for pull-ups."
Not foolproof, of course, but it usually stopped the whining.

Did you ever think, in your wildest dreams about becoming a parent that you'd wind up drawing capes on rabbits on disposable underwear?
Look at it this way---you are piling up that oh so embarrassing material that you can pull out judiciously for use during his teenage years.
How about a diaper cover (intended primarily for cloth diapers, but certainly could be used for disposables.) Ebay is full of wahms who'll make 'em in any pattern you want....

Have you tried switching to underwear only?.....I did that with my son and he has had ONLY 3-4 accidents in the month he has been wearing underwear only....I started him out with the vinyl (plastic) underwear on top of regular underwear and only pullups at night..that only lasted about 1 week and then after a week of no night accidents and only 1 day accident..I took away the pullups at night and the vinyl underwear altogether...He is now in underwear only..no pullups or vinyl underwear..not even at night
I found that pullups were like a crutch for my son, he knew he could pee in them and not feel wet, so he did.... But after one morning of my son urinating on the floor because he was trying to put on a pullup to pee in instead of going to sit on the potty like I told him to I had, had enough...especially since he ALWAYS went at daycare and came home dry EVERYDAY!!!! But would not go for me at all that is UNTIL I took away the pulllups altogether....He can't stand to be wet..so he doesn't pee in his clothes...and he now ONLY uses the regular toliet..He doesn't go on the potty at all because big boys use the big toliet (This is his thinking not mine..he came up with the big boys use the big potty)..
Maybe since your son likes the characters on the pullups..He may love the characters on underwear..My son's personal favorite is Lightning McQueen (CaChow)

If potty training is your goal, pull-ups are not your solution. They absorb too much and are not nearly uncomfortable enough. Have him help you pick out some real cool underwear.
Thank you all but its funny but not funny he doesn't mind wet underwear. He keeps playing and its not a big deal...I will ask him every 15 or so minutes do you need to go potty? So opposite big brother.
I don't know if this was suggested or not, but take him to the store and have him pick out the coolest underwear! Then if he doesn't like the rabbits, do not draw capes on them (ROFL! and I can just picture a mom doing this!) Tell him he can wear the cool undies (Spidey or whatever - it was Wiggles for my son) once he goes potty in the toilet even once in a day. For my son I told him, "Greg does not like to be wet! Pee pee on Jeff will definately wake him up in a bad mood and he'll be mad!" He didn't want to make the Wiggles on his undies mad!!! Plus after so many accidents in one day (because they're inevitable in the beginning) he'd go back to the boring Pull-ups that he hated so much (... I have to be honest, I contemplated getting him girl ones just to horrify him, ROFL!), so that was extra incentive to get the pee in the potty!
Good luck!

Any suggestions? I've been out of the potty training years for, well, years. But I have a 25 month old granddaughter who says she won't go potty in her diapers only her BIG GIRL PANTS! Help! She's got it kind of backwards. I think she may just not be ready and needs to go back into diapers for a while. (She takes all of her clothes off and goes on the floor sometimes.) But my daughter-in=law says once you stop using diapers you can't go back. Any ideas? What do you moms think?

Dragonfly- OMG ROFL - I never saw this thread before! Too Funny!! My guys just one, so I'm a ways off, but potty training has been on my mind lately. And now I can't stop laughing about drawing capes on the bunnies! Have you put your jiffy pen to rest yet??? lol
Well, I was going to suggest to OP that she use stickers on the pullups, but I am sure her ds is potty trained by now. :)
I don't know about not going backwards... I think I would for my own carpets/floors sake. Also, if she won't go in the diapers, then let her wear a pull up and pull them down to go to the potty. she can wear the same one all day. Maybe even put her big girl pants on under the daiper, and show her how her panties are staying prettty?
I think she will eventually get it, but her being able to hold it in diapers is a good sign, I think.
