My husband and I just got licensed last Friday and are waiting for a placement call. We are licensed for foster/adopt two girls ages 7-12. On one of the private agency websites(not the one we went through) I saw two sets of girls on the photolisting and sent an inquiry saying we have an approved homestudy. We got a response back saying that the children did not have to be solely adopted through that agency and that they were in state custody currently in foster care. The email said I should get my caseworker to submit my homestudy. I emailed her and she said she would do it and she asked me what the case #'s were. On the private agency website, there were no case numbers. She said then she needed their names and their birthdays so I submitted that to her. The thing is, those children never showed up on the TARE website(I am in Texas). I wouldn't have even known that they existed if it hadn't been for that website. I guess my question is am I going about this the right way? Should I wait for a placement call for someone who is just legal risk and hope that they get to stay with me or can't I just go after these girls who are legally free to be adopted? I have never been one to sit around and wait for something to happen so I guess I am just antsy. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks!
First, congrats on getting licensed! I'm in Texas as well and also completed the foster/adopt program last year.
If I were you I would get the info on the children you saw on the website and still be available for a placement while finding out. I don't know why they wouldn't be listed on TARE of they are foster kids. Who knows, the way things move sometimes with the system.

I'm also in Texas. During PRIDE training, we had one couple who checked the site daily and they questioned why a child in foster care they found on another site wasn't ever listed on TARE. Both the foster parent and the DFPS employee teaching the class stated repeatedly that the children on TARE represent a very small percentage of children available.
Thanks TXMOM for the congrats and thanks Heather for the info. I was afraid I was stepping on someone's toes or something though the caseworker acted like it wasn't a problem. I guess it's just first time jitters.
Thanks again!:eyebrows:
