Since there isn't much going on...I figure I'd start a roll call to get to know everyone. I'll go first!
I'm a 27 y/o AA single mom from Duval County, Florida
I have been a foster parent for 5 months since Feb 2007.
I have had 4 placements (all boys), 3 still live with me, I will be adopting 2 of them soon:
* Scooter, CC Male - 7 weeks at placement, almost 2 months when he was reunified 1 month later
* Chocolate Thunder, AA Male - 6 months at placement, almost 11 months now. Scheduled for reunification in January 2008.
* Destructo, AA/CC Male - 13 months at placement, almost 18 months now. TPR'd July 11, 2007, Scheduled for adoption within a month or so.
* Boogy, AA/CC Male - 2 years, 5 months at placement, 2 years, 10 months now . TPR'd July 11, 2007, Scheduled for adoption within a month or so.
Still praying for my little girl!
I really enjoy fostering, it's one the best thing I have ever done in my life. I just moved into a MUCH bigger house and I have 2 empty rooms....so in a couple weeks I plan to call and tell placement I can take more kids (I know..I'm insane) but I really love kids. I am only taking in girls for a while....there is way too much testosterone in my house...there are way too many trucks, planes, action figures, and Spiderman & Superman stuff...(lol) I'm the only girl and I need somebody to play barbies with and put my 8+ boxes of pretty bows, shoes and dresses on. (lol)
I'd loved to get together with anyone in my county (or anyone in the state for that matter)..us single parents, need all the friends we can get..(lol)
I'm in Okaloosa County (District 1) in the panhandle. I have been fostering since June 2007. I am a little over 2 months in.
I have a set of twin girls who turn 1 tomorrow. I have had them since June 20. They are set to RU with grandma. I have been hearing "soon" since the beginning of this month.
I called placement about 2 weeks ago to let them know to "look" for more kids for me, but I haven't heard anything yet. They said it has been mostly teenagers lately. I don't want to go over age 6.

I'm also in Duval county. Hi Makarios! :)
I'm 41 (shhh...don't tell anyone! LOL) and hubby is 30 (yeah I robbed the cradle LOL) and we became licensed foster parents in November 2006.
We are currently fostering our 8 yr old niece (HER BIRTHDAY IS TODAY!!!!!!:cake: -PARTY TOMORROW!). She's been living with us since June 30th 2007. She was in foster care in Idaho from July 2006 til June 2007 when she was placed with us here.
I have a 13 yr old biological daughter. Our niece and her actually get along quite well considering the age difference.
TPR: Mom voluntarilly signed on Aug 9th. Dad was default TPR'd also that same day. We are now awaiting starting our adoption home study. Our nieces CASA worker from Idaho mailed me the court documents and I got them yesterday WOO HOO....
We really enjoy having our niece finally home with us. It was a long, rocky road to get her here but it was all worth it. Going thru what we went thru has taught us alot. Nothing comes easy! But it is all so worth it in the end :)
When's the next foster care meeting here in Jax?
Hey Hey!
Im a 24 yo married H Fem (hubby is 25)
I have orientation on Jan 7th, 2008--start MAPP Jan 12
I have no info on children, but me and hubby have tried for 5+ years to concieve, and we ultimatly decided that instead of feeling so desolate about the future and being childless, that we are going to open up our home to foster children ages 0--4. I couldnt be more excited!!
*Oh we are in Duval county...how do you all that need babysitters/daycare find it? Me and hubby haveto have daycare because we work...thanks and nice to meet yall!! ~CS
We're in Duval County Florida also. We just found our own daycare provider for after school care for our niece. I suppose the SW can recommend some but I think you may wish to just go find one yourself and interview them before you place the kids there. They really didn't have a problem with us finding daycare ourselves.
Who are you getting licensed thru? We are thru the Boy's Home.
Well Im not sure...but I know that Im going to the Boys Home to do my classes...so does that mean they are liscensing us? So then I can go out and interview different daycares, and maybe hold a place for up to 2 children for me? Im afraid Im going to jinx myself doing all of this and they find one way or another to not liscense me and hubby...which I really doubt but you know...so our county pays for daycare? Thank you in advance, I hate to be a pest...

I'm not sure about the payment as we pay ourselves. Our niece is a foster child and came from another state so they don't cover daycare costs. Best bet is to inquire about payment before holding a spot. If they pay for it they may require you to use specific daycares. I wouldn't hold daycare spots until you are licensed, because they won't cover the registration costs without you being licensed first (that is if they cover daycare at all here).
We took the MAPP classes thru the Boy's home and were licensed thru them. I think that's what normally happens. And remember they are not looking for things to NOT license you...they will try to license you! They need you!
Thanks for the reassurance!...and about the daycare, well my employer will probably work with me if I all of a sudden need to take a day off or switch a shift...I have been there for 3 and a half years so...and for the most part I work from 10a-3p...maybe 4-p...so I wouldnt need daycare for too long...its just for that small amount of time..actually from noon till 3 becuz my hubby doesnt go to work until 1p...so all in all more of a babysitter..man o man Ive got so many ??'s and concerns..but above all I just want children running around my house...thank you for your support!

for the most part I work from 10a-3p...maybe 4-p...so I wouldnt need daycare for too long
Man where do you work? I need those hours. I work 6:30-3pm and have flex time but I'm looking for something that starts later and ends at 3 or 4pm. That would be great!
lol actually am I allowed to say? Well its a "wing" place in OP...hmm well you can PM me to ask exactly where if you want to know...anywho, I have Mon-Wed off...Tues are a all day school day, but hubby is off on Tues and Wed...so really it would be for Thurs-Sun I would need a baby sitter or daycare for those few hours...*sigh* I want to spend so much time with these children but I cant afford to stay at home...I wish there was a way...oh another ??...my best friends mom is a Ducal county teacher...they are required to do backround checks and fingerprinting I believe...so is she a good enough babysitter?? Just wondering..that would be great if she qualified!

I don't think so. I know my Mom had to have her fingerprints run for Boy's Home to babysit our Niece. And she works in our church nursery and is background checked and fingerprinted there. I think they require anyone wanting to watch the foster kids to do a background check with FSS too. They will give you a form they take in when they go to get fingerprinted. It costs $32.00 to get it done.
oh...well its good to have that option. all in all i hope to be able to work it all out..im thankful to have come to this decision..i love children so much and im glad my home will have some one day..anyways, ill chat with you all later!! <3
Hi It has been a long while since I posted anything, but now things have gone like a whirlwind, In Augest, We were contacted to adopt a DS beautiful baby girl, SHe is through a private agency, so we had to get another homestudy done after completing the one through the state, which has been useless. She has been home with us since the end of Augest. We also now have our foster licence which is also a seperate homestudy through the state. that took 6 months, since April of this year, well, one day after being contacted about our licence approval, We were contacted about placement for a 20 month old and a 4 year old.for fostering That was a month ago, and 1 week later got their sister, 6 years old. It has been a wonderful experience for us, The girls are great, No problems believe it or not, RU will be within a month and that is a good thing. It seems as though the parents have their act togather. We can't wait for more after that. I am 47 My hubby is 54, I have 3 birth daughters 2 at home 17 and 19 (she is expecting in march) and a 21 year old lives behind me who is expecting in Dec. My hubby has 4 and 12 grandchildren. 5 who are here quite often.. My house is full of children and love.. ANyone who is waiting, do not give up, Good things come to those who wait. and boy have we waited.. I would love to talk to anyone in my area or out.
